Not all sequels are bad.
Back in 2013, Alex Wiley, Chance The Rapper, GLC and Chuck Inglish made a sequel to one of the greatest Kanye West songs: “Spaceship.” “Spaceship II,” was a strong effort. If it wasn’t, we’re pretty sure GLC — who rapped on the original — wouldn’t have made an appearance on the track.
Now nearly four years later, Consequence, the other guest rapper on the original, decided to touch the song. Cons added a pretty mean 16 to the song and released it as “Spaceship iii.”
HipHopDX premiered the track. While talking to the site, Consequence explained his reasoning behind “Spaceships iii:”
“‘Spaceship’ on Kanye’s 1st LP, The College Dropout was and [still] is a Fan Favorite…I thought that Alex Wiley, Chance The Rapper and Chuck Inglish did a great job capturing the vibe of the original record with their own version. Once GLC co-signed it, I thought it would be great to add a verse and put a modern twist on our classic.”
Consequence is keeping himself busy. He’s working on a new album — he dropped the Royce da 5’9 assisted single “All Black Neighborhood” last week — and he’s getting ready to hit up the festival circuit with A Tribe Called Quest. It has just been announced that Tribe will be one of the headliners of this year’s Pitchfork Music Festival.
