Common Reveals His Process, Talks Old Records, Kanye + More w/ Jeff Staple

Common stopped Staple's HQ for a chat with its founder/resident hip-hop aficionado Jeff Staple about their past collaborations, Com's old records, working with Kanye West and a whole lot more on 1-2-1. First, they touch on the Chicago MC's unconventional writing process, opting to take tracks to the whip, which is where he claims he writes the vast majority of his lines. Then they delve into some of Com's old works from Resurrection to Be, waxing on his Kanye collaborations, along with the pains and pleasures of that process.

Eventually, they end with a word on his latest album Nobody's Smiling and the profound honor Com was graced with in reuniting with No I.D. for the record, not to mention the laundry list of young talent (Chicago-based and abroad) he had the pleasure of working with on the record. Nobody's Smiling is out now via Def Jam and can be purchased on iTunes today. Watch Common and Jeff Staple mix it up on the latest episode of 1-2-1 below.
