Charlie Murphy Loses Battle With Leukemia, Dead at 57

The entertainment world just lost a not-so-quiet titan. Sadly, Charlie Murphy, big brother to Eddie Murphy and legend in his own right, died this Wednesday morning after a long bout with leukemia, according to TMZ.

With an early start in film (Harlem Nights, CB4, Mo Betta Blues, Jungle Fever,) Murphy spent the last 20 years developing a singular style and was notorious for his feverish retellings of Hollywood tales, brought to life in Chappelle's Show's iconic Rick James and Prince bits. He'd found a fan in Aaron McGruder, prominently featuring in both The Boondocks and Black Jesus on Adult Swim in the years following. As a stand-up, he toured with luminaries and friends Cedric The Entertainer and Eddie Griffin, opened for a pair of shows during Chappelle's historic 12-night affair at Radio City Music Hall along with fellow co-star, Donnell Rawlings.

He is beloved by many and already sorely missed. But if we've learned anything from his larger-than-life stories from the road, we oughta get to celebrating this man's life. RIP, Charlie Murphy. There will never be another.
