Things are moving so fast, aren’t they, y’all? Kendrick Lamar‘s DAMN. hasn’t even been out a week, yet, here we are with another creative-as-fuck video for the album’s standout cut, “DNA.” Directed by Nabil and The Lil’ Homies — the video for “DAMN.” starts off provocatively, like a hip-hop version of Law and Order: Criminal Intent, with Don Cheadle as a police detective interrogating a shackled Lamar.

The celebrated actor then makes fun of Mr. Duckworth’s “two first names,” and suggests an alternate explanation for what “DNA” stands for. Without giving too much away, something happens that puts this video into full overdrive, making Don Cheadle a trending topic and keeps heads ringing all the way from Vallejo to Virginia.

“DNA.,” much like the self-replicating material, is full of twists, turns and crazy moments. With a different ending to the album version, we break down the “DNA.” video and offer just one tidbit: those Chinese characters apparently translate as “Kung-Fu Kenny”.

So, there you have it, guys and gyals. Keep your radars on lock as we continue to bring you the latest from TDE‘s reigning superstar.

For the crime committed of murdering emcees, Kendrick (aka Kung-Fu Kenny) has been detained by Detective Don Cheadle. The TDE star seems unresponsive to threats of violence by the officer of the law.

The obligatory lie detector test is there to make sure Kenny isn’t fibbing, but something goes awry with the device. Upon pressing down on the button, Cheadle’s body jerks and violently shakes in his chair.

If anyone has ever seen the Denzel Washington-starring film, Fallen, then this should resonate with you. It appears that something has entered Don Cheadle’s body, but it would have been nice to see a visual cue of that happening (blackened eyes or something).

We know learn that the essence of Kendrick Lamar’s DNA is coursing through Don Cheadle’s body. He begins to rap parrot Kenny’s lines back to a still unresponsive Grammy Award winning MC. It must probably be because of how much psychic energy one must expound to get his spirit into another.

The awakening happens between Kendrick and Don as they simultaneous trade barbs. Both, as black men who live in this Trump-ran country, know the perils of murder, conviction, redemption and living with a “soldier’s DNA” while remaining a citizen inside the U.S. beast.

Realizing Using his powers of possession to free himself from bondage, War Machine Cheadle lets our hero go to continue to spread his word of loyalty and royalty that exists in our DNA.

With anything in life there is a price to pay. For Don Cheadle, his DNA is more jellyfish than barracuda shark, so he ends up compensating Kenny the Reaper with his life.

Now free, Kendrick is back with the “lil’ homies,” and making sure the rest of the industry is put on notice that this block, this territory known as the rap game belongs to him and TDE.

“I’d rather die than to listen to you.” A great visual capturing of that lyric to the viewer who sees Kendrick choosing to rest in peace, Undertaker-style, than to listen to what the washed masses have to say to him.

Kendrick, who was nominated for 11 Grammys in 2016, had only one less nod than the all-time record held by Michael Jackson. In a look at his own personal shrine to success, you see the seven-time Grammy Award winner place his trophies under two of his idols: Snoop Dogg and Tupac Shakur.

“Beach inside the window, peekin’ out the window / Baby in the pool, godfather goals.” Despite the references Genius might offer, the visuals might signify Kendrick’s reluctance to open up. Choosing to stay close to comfort and family instead of dealing with negativity (paparazzi) and hate.

The paparazzi shot. Dodging the vipers of the media world, Kendrick maneuvers his way into the next scene.

At Four Daughters, with his good friend Brock Marciano, this scene signifies Kendrick’s successful attempts at escaping the paps to have a nice bite to eat at one of his favorite restaurants.

A few familiar faces line this shot, as “DNA.” proves that it is not just Kendrick’s own strands that flow in this video, but it is also the neighborhood and comrades that make up the code that they all live by.

Not so fat, boy, ScHoolboy Q, also makes a cameo in this video. Reppin’ for more than just the TDE crew, Q does something that most affiliated guys and gyals should know whether they’re out West or anywhere else in this country. For the few in attendance who may not know, this is the universal sign of somebody about to get squabbed on.
