The 3rd Annual Blackstar Film Festival Kicks Into Gear With The Arrival Of A 'Do The Right Thing' Inspired Trailer Ahead Of The Festival Which Runs From July 31st To August 3rd In Philadelphia.

BlackStar Film Festival 2014 kicks off on July 31st at Philadelphia's Institute of Contemporary Art with an opening night reception featuring the sounds of world class selector and Illvibe Collective representative DJ Mr. Sonny James. The free event is open to the public and precedes the highly-anticipated screening of filmmaker Kahlil Joseph's short films Until The Quiet Comes, Black Up and Wildcat on August 1st at the ongoing Ruffneck Constructivists exhibit curated by artist and chief architect of the Marvelous Sugar Baby, Kara Walker. Joseph's ethereal clips, which are often scored by the sounds of sonically forward artists like Flying Lotus, Shabazz Palaces and Seu Jorge, fit perfectly with the festival's Music Is The Weapon theme. The 5:30 PM screening event at the International House will be followed by a Q&A with Joseph and a conversation with filmmaker Terence Nance at 7 PM.
