Watch BJ The Chicago Kid Deliver A Moving Cover Of Donell Jones's "Where I Wanna Be"

BJ the Chicago Kid Where I Wanna be Acoustic Cover

It may be a little late for #ThrowbackThursday, but BJ The Chicago Kid had the past on his mind when he delivered a moving, scaled-back cover of Donell Jones's 1999 single "Where I Wanna Be." Dressed down in a t-shirt and Sox lid, the R&B crooner belted over a sparse acoustic guitar arrangement of the tune, a method that both did the original justice and made it his own, infusing his own vocal flourishes and melodic runs into the open spaces with confidence to space.

BJ The Chicago kid will be releasing his new LP In My Mind in the first half of next year, but when exactly remains to be specified. He's remained plenty active in recent months, dropping singles like "Buddy" featuring Chance The Rapper and the Big K.R.I.T.-fueled "The Resume." Now it seems he's back on the softer side of things, but with a voice like that we'll be the last to complain. Listen to the cover of "Where I Wanna Be" below and keep your ears peeled in the early weeks of year for more serene notes, plus news of In My Mind's release date.
