This weekend the New York Times published an interesting article about the “Southern traditionalist underground” currently “having its moment,” citing the success of Big K.R.I.T.‘s major label debut as one of the main benchmarks for their argument. Krit’s firm footing in Southern rap tradition has never been clearer than on this tune we posted earlier this summer. Featuring H-Town-veterans Lil’ Keke and Slim Thug, a chopped-and-screwed hook, an ultra-present, UGK-reminiscent bassline and classic woodgrain-twinkles, the remix for “Me And My Old School” is practically the aural incarnation of dripping candy-paint. Add a few mean-looking chrome spikes and oversized headlights to the equation when applying the visual treatment and you get a full-blown piece of dirty south classicism.
