Props to Wale. Always hustling. Always doing something different. Always interested in utilizing social media to deeper connect with his audience. There is a reason why Fast Company rated him in 2016 one of the most influential artists on Instagram. Love him or hate him, he’s out there communicating and responding. This was his fifth studio album and fifth consecutive in the Top 5 on the Pop charts including three number ones.

Anyway, he did something really cool this time… partnered with Genius to do a live annotation of his album. He got to break down the ins and outs of his lyricism and spoken word. Props to Genius for adopting to artists needs and building a new format here. I have a feeling this is going to be a new trend in the URL to IRL culture.

Also, the most attended event of the week is The Diversity in Tech Awards. At one point in time, if you could read and write, you could always find a job. Today, if you can code you can always find a job. The modern connected world lives on code: an invisible language that allows people from all over the world to connect, to create, and to change the world with their coding skills. We at Nue believe this idea and saw a chance to bring more diversity to coding.

On May 4th at Bowery Hotel in New York City, Nue is helping produce: The Diversity In Tech Awards. A night that will benefit Code / Interactive, a wonderful organization that is committed to teaching inner city kids how to code, kindergarten through twelfth grade. Code / Interactive teaches children essential coding skills and works to bring much needed diversity to the tech world. For this exciting evening we’ve enlisted some awesome talent including our very own Questlove and Nancy Whang from LCD Soundsystem. They’ll be providing the beats to keep our night flowing. We hope you can join us because every dollar counts and luckily there are still a few tables available.

So I keep in mind what the legendary Motown producer and writer, Suzanne de Passe, once told me, “in the music business it’s important to do good, especially when you are doing well.”
