I’m a big Pusha T fan, so no hate here. But as hard as that Kanye (and DJ Don Cannon) produced “Numbers On The Boards” beat is, the song is just cool to me, not Pusha’s hardest (IMO). So it’s no surprise that a few emcees have been trying their hand at the track. Jonwayne gets in the mix with this new one “Numbers on the Hoard.” “I got demons, shit I eat with them/in fact they’re the ones that tell me if I need more seasoning.” – love dude’s lyricism. Daft Punk remix for all you obsessives and collectors–not to mention DJs who felt the single version of “Get Lucky lacked “thump.” Drop Out Orchestra from Sweden have decided to be next in line to put their own spin on the single. As recommended in an OKP forum, their version amps it up with subtle and light variations. A few drums added here and there give it some more oomp (or oontz or whatever the hell you wann call it). There are classic DJ effects such as the occasional reverb blast but don’t expect to hear a bass drop. While it’s not drastically different than the original, it’s an enjoyable pumped up flip which I could imagine will be getting a lot of burn in clubs soon. Stream the remix below.

Treach and Kay Gee recently paid a visit to the Juan Epstein Show to break down the history of Naughty By Nature – the legendary hip-hop trio founded by the Illtown representatives – for Peter Rosenberg and DJ Cipha Sounds. The architects of the hip-hop anthem break down their evolution from shutting down the talent show circuit under their first moniker, New Style to shutting down entire malls after dropping their smash hit “O.P.P.”; the track was premiered on the radio by the legendary DJ Red Alert. Naughty details how they got down with Queen Latifah‘s Flavor Unit and made their first big concert appearance with De La Soul. An interesting hiccup in the group’s relationship with their Native Tongues friends also includes a beef that combusts later at a De La show. Check the interview below for the whole story.

The Brand New Heavies mark their momentous return with Forward, their first studio album since the 2006 LP Get Used To It. The project – scheduled to drop on May 21st – is lead by the single “Sunlight” and a massive amount of anticipation from fans who have been longing for a renaissance of the soul revival cemented by the acid jazz pioneers during 90s. With Forward, the Brand New Heavies mark a return to their signature sound, despite a changing of the guard that finds Dawn Joseph taking over lead vocals for N’Dea Davenport – the powerhouse songstress some consider the voice of the ‘Heavies. Though she has reportedly relinquished the captain’s chair, Davenport does appear on a few tracks while Joseph commences to putting her foot in the remaining joints. The group recently explained their evolution in an exclusive interview with Okayplayer. The project is a testament to their talent as world class musicians and purveyors of funk in all forms. Singer/songwriter, drummer, producer and keyboardist Jan Kincaid, guitarist Simon Bartholomew and bassist Andrew Levy mark their triumphant return with airtight musicianship in an ode to the disco era packed with horns, strings and a heavy dose of hardcore soul. Wu-Tang Clan are marking the twentieth anniversary of Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) this year with a new album, A Better Tomorrow, rumored to drop in July. Today, Soul Temple have dropped an unreleased Frank Dukes-produced Wu-Tang track as a customer appreciation offering. “Execution in Autumn” can be purchased as a 7″ record on a pay-what-you want basis with the minimum being $0.50. The song features the RZA, Raekwon, Inspectah Deck, and U-God. It’s not clear whether this is intended for the forthcoming album, but nonetheless it’s a solid return for the group.
