Update: Due to impact of Hurricane Sandy, Toro y Moi’s Brooklyn listening events at Project Parlor have been rescheduled for November 9-11. SanFran dates remain the same.

In this 21st century of Google, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, too much bud of too many strands, Adderall and the like, Sandy(!), countless amounts of blogs, long menus, and TV (I’ll stop here), you have to do a lot to capture an audience. Apparently, that’s no secret to graphic designer and musician Toro y Moi (government: Chazwick Bundick). Toting two albums, plus a BFA in Graphic Design from The University of South Carolina, Toro y Moi is ready to lasso some attention spans. As he prepares for the release of his third album, Anything in Return, he’s tapping his artistic talents and resources. Rather than having simple listening parties in hotel rooms or popular lounges, he’s hosting them in art galleries across Brooklyn (Project Parlor) and San Francisco (Public Works). I thought that was cool enough, but Toro y Moi knows how to do me one better — get this: he’s displaying original drawings with each song on the album, which attendees will be able to listen to on headphones. Add some wine, and these listening parties are sure to be the prettiest musical experiences since your iTunes’ visualizer. And the events are free?! We’re in there.

Anything in Return, out January 22 via Carpark Records, is sure to push categorical boundaries. The Columbia, South Carolina native has stated that the album aims to create “sincere pop music” (never heard of it), without the processed and bubblegum sound. Listening to “So Many Details,” it becomes very clear what Toro y Moi means by “sincere pop music.” Will this album have my attention? Oh yeah. Give the song a couple of plays and tell us if it captures yours. After the jump, check out Toro y Moi’s gallery and tour dates. Catch him while you can.
