Audio: The Weeknd "Get In There" [Unreleased]

Lenny Kravitz, Grace Jones, Lauryn Hill, Lion Babe, Thundercat, SZA & More Rock The Afropunk Festival 2015 in Brooklyn, NY.TheWeeknd_Rack

This mysterious unreleased throwback from The Weeknd has just surfaced online, with metadata suggesting that it may be the first thing Abel Tesfaye ever recorded, circa 2006 or early 2007, prior even to his work with producer Jeremy Rose. I imagine leaks like this must drive an artist crazy, like publishing pages from their middle school diary or something. At the same time, it's a pretty dope song IMO, and connects Tesfaye's distinctive sound back to more bibbity R&B ala The-Dream, et al. Funny how this internet culture of over-saturation causes artists like Tesfaye and Frank Ocean to pull back, maintaining a secrecy and distance from their audience as a way of standing out...prompting us to delve ever deeper in to their still-young back catalogs to keep the saturator machine saturating. You could write a thesis about this stuff. Or you could just bounce to this:
