Audio: Lenny Kravitz x Drake “Sunflower”

Lenny MF Kravtiz just leaked two new songs off his upcoming (September 27th–pre-order here) LP Black & White America. Although it has been described as his ‘funk’ LP (aren’t all of his albums kind of his funk LP?) it is obvious just from the songs that have leaked so far that the work is way too diverse to be accurately described that way.

Case in point, this joint “Sunflower” featuring Drake (stream below). The hook is pure R&B and the rhythm track could be jazzy drum n’ bass if it didn’t have such a strong 70s throwback feel to it. Drake modestly keeps it brief and intros himself with “I’m not that good with words but I’ma try my best.” But ultimately, he does exactly what a guest rapper is supposed to, which is fuck with the beat. Maybe even less expected is the Jay-Z (!) cameo “Boongie Drop” which showcases Lenny’s Bahamian roots with a strong dancehall feel…check it out and get more backstory on Lenny’s Caribbean connection over at LargeUp.
