Soul goddess and Okayplayer mainstay Jill Scott has leaked the first single from her forthcoming Warner project, featuring fellow Illadelphian Eve on a guest rap verse. The sample, backwards-masked intro, part of the hook and Eve’s first few bars are all, of course, inspired by Special Ed‘s BK rap classic “I’m The Magnificent,” a concept which might be questionable in less capable hands. But the party-break makes an ideal vehicle for Jill to show off her infectious way with a melody. In fact, since old school breaks with an R&B vocal have always been a formula for radio domination, its nice to see a singer with true grit give it a run. Because let’s face it, J. Scott has more soul in her left pinky toe than pretty much any other R&B chick on the dial. Don’t take our word for it, listen below.

Meanwhile, back at the Hidden Beach…Jill’s previous label is trying to rep their side, promising to release a Jill Scott From the Vault disc soon as well, including a cover of Bill Withers‘ “Lovely Day.” You can stream it in YouTube form after the jump. Listen, compare and contrast.
