All musical roads lead to Austin, these days. Or at least that’s where James Blake and Justin Vernon from Bon Iver met up (at SXSW of course), expressed mutual admiration for the other cat’s music and planted the seed of this collabo, which sounds like the R&B at it’s core’s been warped and melted by Blake’s odd harmonics like a wax heart left on a hot dashboard too long. The mournful vocal from Justin is set off with a weird dog-bark sample and unnaturally chopped piano. In other words, it’s real good.
