Last week RJD2 and Aaron Livingston announced that the debut LP of their psychedelic soul project Icebird would drop in October. It’s called The Abandoned Lullaby and based on the first leak–”Going and Going. And Going”–it’s got a stong rockish edge. Kind of sounds like D2′s answer to the N.E.R.D. except that the glue that holds his weird hip-hop ear together with this is clearly a foundation of heavy Philly uprock soul. Which makes sense. Speaking of things that make unexpected sense, an Icebird is a ship that breaks ice (thank you, Dr. Google!) in case you thought they just made it up. Which puts the ark on the cover art a little more in context. It is a bad-ass name, though. And a bad-ass song (stream/download below).
