Audio: DJ Shadow “Scale It Back” f/ Yukimi Nagano of Little Dragon

Been hearing that this Yukimi-featuring track was the highlight of the new DJ Shadow LP and now I see why. You can really hear all the 90s R&B influences she talks about come through in Yukimi’s voice here–she is channeling T-Boz something spooky on the opening bars–and the melancholy piano over Shadow’s Biz Markie-sized drums makes for an instant rainy day classic. And those elements are really just the beginning of the journey. Listen below and you’ll see what I mean. This is off The Less You Know the Better, which came out pretty quietly on October 4th. But I have a feeling it is gonna creep up on you when you’re not looking.
