Pass The Popcorn: The Amy Winehouse Doc 'Amy' Just Got A US Release Date

Lenny Kravitz, Grace Jones, Lauryn Hill, Lion Babe, Thundercat, SZA & More Rock The Afropunk Festival 2015 in Brooklyn, NY.

Not like we didn't see it coming or anything, but the anxiously anticipated Amy Winehouse doc has just received an official stateside release date. Amy, which has recently come under fire from Winehouse's father for a unflattering portrayal of himself and the family, will be landing in the US on July 10th. But if you just can't bear to wait that long, and happen to be in France this weekend, the world premiere will be taking place at Cannes this Saturday, May 16th, with US premieres in New York & LA planned for July 3rd. According to our sources, the doc paints an honest picture, brutally at times, of the life and legacy of the late soul queen, who schooled Questlove on Sarah Vaughan (simultaneously catching a lesson on the GOAT J Dilla from a dear friend and collaborator) and introduced the world to a whole new brand of funk, born across the pond, but bred right here in the states. So now that we finally have the answer to "when" you can go and figure out "how" on your own. And if you need a little teaser, peep an official clip from the doc below.
