Alabama Shakes are probably best known to the OKP realm for their rugged and raw take on the funk and soul traditions, and of course the eruptive croon of lead-singer Brittany Howard (which you may remember from her Late Night set last year with The Roots.) On this past weekend's installment of Saturday Night Live, Howard returned to 30 Rock with her ensemble to show off some new numbers from their forthcoming Sound & Color LP in the explosive and anthemic "I Don't Wanna Fight" and their tender, waxy love jonesin' "Gimme All Your Love," both of which proved to be every bit as powerful as we had hoped. Deep funk and howling soul penetrated the studio 8h audience, adding a touch of the spooky 'Bama blues to the mix with twangy six-string licks and heavy head-nod-inducing grooves.
