Akalepse breaks down the sample for J Dilla's "Last Donut Of The Night"
Fellow J Dilla fanatic DJ Akalepse breaks down the soulful, string-laden sample (The Moments "To You With Love," FYI) from the late-era Dilla classic "Last Donut Of The Night" in this most recent installment of the Bling Breaks series. The original is an emotional song and an emotion-heavy beat, not just because of the power of the way it's melody is used but also because it reminds us of the way his last album was recorded and the magical donut assembly-line which ceased production forever in 2006. Even on the simplest of Dilla beats--there's layers to this shit. Even Ak gets a little misty-eyed when he remembers discovering this 45 at a record fair in NJ. Watch below:
