Video: ?uestlove Reacts to Obama Presidency!
Posted by Shamz on Nov 05, 2008
I know I was at a loss for words last night after the news finally sunk in. As most of you here are aware, ?uestlove has been doing his part in Obama's grass roots campaigning from the beginning. In this video, ?uesto gives his emotional response to Barack Obama being elected President of the United States and warns agains the dangers of feeling complacent as the real work has really yet to begin.

I'm a Spaniard, hope you won't mind my writing here. I lived 5 years in your country, and I feel the best America has at last raised its head. This means there's still HOPE both for you and for the world. But my first reaction back at the night of the election, my reaction from the gut, was not about politics but about emotions. I thought of all the elderly blacks who grew up under Jim Crow and who feel their struggle was worth it. But most of all, I thought about black children who are nearing their teens at this very moment, and who won't have to grow up feeling they are somehow second class, or that they have to prove something to others simply because of their phenotype.
I'm not sure you are interested in what a white foreigner has to say, but I really love what ?uestlove says in this clip. I strongly believe that we (you, blacks, whites, Hispanics, Americans, foreigners, men, women, gays, Muslims, Jews, Christians, atheists... aka the human race, as in 'we' and not as in 'us' and 'them') are not 'there' yet. We'll probably never get to be fully 'there', it will always be a struggle. But I believe this election has moved us several miles in the good direction, proving that it is still rational to believe that sanity will someday triumph over the madness of the policies of hate. Everytime a group of human beings increases their liberty, we all of us become a bit more free. Thank you.

America keeps her promise and it only took 400 years. I feel you ?uest. Hope is only the start. Perhaps Hip Hop will find her path back to a positive/creative base as well. Perhaps anything is possible....Perhaps...............

haha me too... people at work congratulating me like... I was on the Pulpit last night... you have NO Idea! As an african from Ghana... you have no idea. This is not just an afroamerican thing going on. Its what YT did to us. They made us look for the last element of identity and collective solidarity which invariably was the skin. That is never ever going to change. YT forced this into existence through 400 years of pretty much overdoing it... to put it politely ;-). Black people "togetherness" is as transatlantic a phenomenon as protestantism is. Crazy but yeah... thats just how our species (by the way THERE IS ONLY ONE HUMAN RACE)is. We used to be bahutu and ashanti and ewe and whatnot... now we're just black sometimes... not always but every now and then... Barack sort of "pinaccled" this whole "we're all just blck" thing again! Wow... i'm talking too much.... Let me just say this: Obamas Mantra isn't "I'll handle this shit for yall" It is: "yes WE can!" Whoever went to vote has to stay mobilized politically henceforth. Please. Don't relapse! He needs us! Every single day of his term. Otherwise, he'll be swallowed up by AIPAC, The Military Industrial Complex, his Cold war advisors with the EITHER/OR Vision blind to pluralism when it comes to international problemsolving
Damn--- anyone reading on? ALL I'M SAYING IS THIS: DO NOT RELAPSE. Otherwise he is finished before he even starts. HE NEEDS US EVERY SINGLE DAY OF HIS TERM! To remind and reprimand him. Without us, he is just another lawyer... with good intentions. With us, he is voltron. No joke! Anyone noticed how DURING HIS NOMINATION Israel went into Gaza for the first time in MONTHS? WHY? Why just then? There wasn't any urgency whatsoever to do that! At all! No Palestinian stress... nothing... They just did that to fuck with barack. On some: Yo... welcome to politics son... you're in for a hard ride! That was a wake up call! So...well.. yeah... without us ... he is pretty much going to wither. Quest... sorry for jackin your post. One! Come back to germany! Frankfurt preferably! One!

your right. man i watched the crowd for obama and it was beautiful. people of all ages and races coming together. this was the dream that Martin Luther King died for and what this country should stand for. but we got work to do. this is the beginning of a long road, yesterday was a step in the right direction.
