Rock The Bells footage is definitely starting to role in. For those of you who have been too stubborn to buy tickets, let these vids from RTB Washington D.C. serve as motivation. Above, we get a clip of The Roots set. Anytime you get to witness Black Thought and Skillz go bar after bar with the rhymes, it's a treat. In this particular set they go back and forth performing classics from Run-DMC, Snoop Dogg, and NWA. After the jump watch Nas perform "New York State of Mind." Hit up RTB when it rolls through your town, you don't wanna be the kid in school on Monday hearing about the greatness you missed out on. Shout out to IllVibes.

Black thought is the top of the crop man, and still adding to his resume. He is going to go down maybe as the greatest ever when its all said and done.

The difference between Nas and Black Thought.. Black Thought is a beast when it comes to live shows. Nas has hits that people can easily sing along, but he's not the best live. In the studio, I think Nas has very intricate and deep introspective lines and stories. Black Thought is also very sharp in the studio, but I don't think what the Roots do live will ever transfer on record. Both emcees are on my top 10. It seems to me that Black Thought really works at what he does, and Nas just rocks. I do think Nas/Damian Marley on record is going to be one of the most important records to come out this year, and maybe being around The Marley's will help Nas when it come to rocking live. As far as Black Thought, he's unfuck-wit-able on record, live, in a cipher, covering hits, shit everything. People in other cities who say they don't get it have to just keep listening.

how can you not consider Black Thought as one of the best all around MCs? Ever heard "live performance quality" as one of the criteria for best rapper? Nas is amazing, don't get me wrong, but he can't get you out your seat like Black Thought! plus great rhymes to boot

i was at chicago and hip hop STILL doesn't get the roots! they had a crazy jam and everyone was like "what is this jazz music these strange men with instruments are playing?"
this concert is proof that hip hop is the soundtrack to our culture/generation. every race, age, belief was there.
