It's wild. It's western. It's super psychedelic. It's the new animated video for "Gunfight" by The Mighty Underdogs featuring MF Doom. The self-proclaimed hip-hop supergroup is comprised of Lateef the Truth Speaker (Quannum Projects), Headnodic (Crown City Rockers), and Gift of Gab (Blackalicious), and they will release their first album on Def Jux this October, entitled Droppin' Science Fiction. In addition to MF Doom, guests include DJ Shadow, Mr. Lif, and Damian "JR Gong" Marley, among others. Make sure to check out this free download of "The Anthem" off their upcoming album! This is sick. They obviously had no intimations of this being played anywhere near MTV- its laughably violent. I like the integrity of the concept, and getting DOOM to hold true to it and for all the MC's to pull it off so well is...kinda rare. Is anyone else doing hip-hop that sounds this fresh, fun and inspired?

So....It's seems that I've sparked a controversy with my post about this video. You see, I know Gab personally and professionally, and he made a note to call me because he felt his friend dissed his music, and put it up on a post. Gab, and the Blackalicious family, looked out for me as an artist from 2003 to 2005. That's how I first got to Europe. I'm always the first to raise the Blackalicious and Gab banner, but quite honestly, I didn't like the song, and I should have just hit him up personally instead of posting it on the Internet. In no way was I attempting to diss Gab in any way, and this is a public apology. Music critics are like opinions, everyone has one. My fault homie...

Unlike some I like the concept of the song. It's totally out of character for these emcees to spit like this. It's a fantasy piece. So hence the old western theme of the video. But if you mention the word gun, bullet, or shoot in a verse people want to Tipper Gore you.

The song was a-ight but the video looked like they resurrected Romare Bearden, fed him acid, and made him animate it.
I dunno how I feel about that either.
