Video: The Foreign Exchange “House of Cards” feat. Muhsinah

I'd call "House of Cards" by The Foreign Exchange and Muhsinah a stand out track from FE's Leave it All Behind, but that might imply the other songs on the LP aren't of this caliber… so I'll simply say it's one of MANY great songs from the album. The vid was directed by Matt Koza, and shot in Philly. It's not easy to visually capture a song so powerful, but Matt definitely nailed it with this clip.

Must admit, I’m hard to please, but I’m always searching for creativity in music, albeit hip-hop, jazz, electro, funk, dammit even crunk music. However, listening to this track once again exhibits how ‘Te continues to push the envelop each and every time he steps into a booth. To many, with his witty punchlines and metaphors, he relishes as the backpacker’s answer to Jada, but to others he’s an uncompromising, extremely intelligent, gifted and brave old soul who constantly gives his all to music, whether he’s singing, rhyming or throwing in hand claps. Must admit I’m from an urban part of Queens NYC, and despite the very short term Prodigy beef, I’ve been proselytizing Phonte’s music to all of my ignorant comrads for years.

Mushinah is beautiful and her voice continues to progress, which is why the song is sonically euphoric. Plus these two artists seam to always mesh together as one, exhibiting a seamless chemistry. That being said the vid doesn’t really do the song justice. Its bland and average in every respect. But FE is a force in music. Nic is a genius. and I hate writing long blogs! Just had to vent. Peace.

In NYC I deal with simple minded cats, who shun left of center progressive type music, and I accept that. However on OKP, a cite that stands by left of center artists who record left of center music, that ironically attracts cats who prefer the simple over the in depth, denouncing cats who type essays in lieu of one line sentences. I’ll let anyone know, I’ll write an essay, a koan, a heiku or poem if I damn well please!!! You know why??? cause the damn box allows me to do such! Don’t like what I write or how long I write, don’t read the mofo. This cite is about expression, I cant argue over what mofos say, but when an ignorant cat condemns me for using far too many words than I gotta check a n***a. I hope thats ova 144 words. Shaunprophet@aol.com where u can find me at, e-me, and if you in Queens come see me!!

Foreign Exchange and Muhsinah continue to prove themselves a legendary combination of forces. Crazy amazing video concept (and execution) also.

Nice to see a Philly backdrop. Get so tired of the same old New York backdrops! Does he jump??

For an album that appears not to have a big budget this video was pretty incredible! Lovin the do it yourself attitude with these underground vids/directors that get no shine.

Shaun P, you’re obviously an insightful and articulate person. Someone who is going to criticize another for actually having the ability to coherently state their opinion obviously lacks the intelligence to do so themselves and definitely does not deserve any wasted key strokes on your part. Instigating E-beef with someone who is obviously lacking in important skill sets such as literacy only serves to degrade yourself (& they probably don’t get what you’re talking about anyway).

Although it is good to see extremely and refreshingly talented emcees like Phonte go this direction, I am actually disappointed with this record and almost the entirety of the cd itself. I love the genre and the sound for sure, but what Nicolay and he did with Connected was way more profound than anything they’ve done since. Music like this has been out for a looong time. Its only now that people who only listen to hip-hop think its something new. Just like all the radio crap is just using super outdated 90′s techno beats as their back-drop. They should have expanded on the Connected concept even more. Albeit it was almost a perfect record to me. This video actually outshines the record IMO. *CBD!: Have a 5th grader read all this to you*
