Redman & J Dilla – “The Saga Continues Remix”
(From Assorted Donuts. Who knew this song even had a video?)
Following up the Big L video we posted last week, Ralp McDaniel, DJ Soul, and Okayplayer are back with two more sync-ups from Soul’s “Assorted Donuts: A Tribute to J Dilla” mixtape. If you don’t remember, one of the project’s driving concepts was to flip tracks off Dilla’s Donuts with artists he never got a chance to work with. In addition to last Friday being Big L’s birthday, the timing of these videos continues to be ripe as we just learned that Video Music Box is going to be celebrating their 25th anniversary with the kick-off party on June 14th and a free concert in NYC’s Central Park on July 18th. Make sure u go out and support!
Video: Mos Def & J Dilla “Miss Fat Booty Remix”

Never got a chance to work with? I don’t know about Big L or Redman (Dilla sampled his voice at least twice)but yeah… he has few tracks with Mos. I don’t know how I really feel about this, its starting to seem like they’re doing Dilla like Pac. Its cool if people wanna expose Dilla more or if people want to make new stuff with him. But I don’t know about “retro-fitting”. But hey thats just me, and I’m just a fan.
Rest In Peace my hero Dilla!

damn; hip hop where have you been? (nice)
Also some of those “Donuts” beats were just to be instrumentals they have “spittable” versions. See Ghostface’s Beauty Jackson and Com’s So Far To Go, so showing people this can mess up someones first impression of a genius.
Peace
Thank you DJ Soul. This is nice.
the concept of putting dilla’s donuts with emceess he never had a chance to work with was just something Soul had originlly set out to do. The mixtape contains Ghostface, The Roots, and others who Dilla worked with. it was one part of the idea for this one mixtape. it just so happens that these videos came around later. not part of a larger movement to ‘retro-fit’ and if these videos are someone’s first impressions of dilla than, well, that’s interesting…
Redman Should have had had a J Dilla produced album! His voice on the track seems natural to me. I have to admit Redman is one of the most overlooked and underated MC’s ever.
Fuck J.Dilla
I Love Crunck!!!!!!!!!!!!
yiehhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
