Raphael Saadiq opens his show last night (6/25/09) at Blue Note Tokyo with a tribute to Michael Jackson performing the Jackson 5's "I Want You Back."  Shout out to front of house engineer, and Roots Crew lifer, Kilo Saunders.

The Japanese people are SO polite. I doubt I could stay seated seeing Saadiq perform this in person. Great tribute!

If you were there you probably would've enjoyed it too.

Raphael Saadiq is as genuine an r&b artist as there is right now. I think this was fine.

Well, it's a tribute, not a cover. What really matters is the soul and meaning behind the performance, and he seems to be well-aware of the genuine essence of the song in itself.
