Well, it’s a tribute, not a cover. What really matters is the soul and meaning behind the performance, and he seems to be well-aware of the genuine essence of the song in itself.
The people there seem to be feeling it.
If you were there you probably would’ve enjoyed it too.
Raphael Saadiq is as genuine an r&b artist as there is right now. I think this was fine.

The Japanese people are SO polite. I doubt I could stay seated seeing Saadiq perform this in person. Great tribute!
