Video: Mos Def is a DOOM fan

I LOVE to see true emcees (especially one of Mos Def's caliber) who are not ashamed to admit they're fans of other emcees. I spotted this clip the other night on the boards featuring Mos Def in the studio (working on The Ecstatic) and talking about how amazing he thinks DOOM is. DOOM definitely doesn't get the credit he deserves. Mos proceeds to spit verse after verse from DOOM (and dissects the hell out of 'em) and even names an emcee he thinks DOOM would smash on lyrically. DOOM's album, Born Like This is in stores now (catch up if you've been sleepin'), and Mos' The Ecstatic will be out June 9th.

  1. avatar HI.

DOOM is the master of abstract lyricism. Even back in the K.M.D. days. I wholeheartedly agree with Mos that DOOM would eat Wayne alive and then be like, “MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM, FOOD.” Me and Mos got a mill on DOOM VS Wayne!! This offer extends to Bosses only as middlemen need ridalin!! Black Bastards!!

I’ll be the what# to say it ,

I got 2,000 on DOOM Vs. Wayne

    What up!!

  25. avatar Delgodo

Doom kills in any alias. But a lot of dumb fucks slept on the genius of K.M.D. To this day they don’t get mentioned when chatting about the greats. These cats rocked a conceptual album while they were mad young. A well rounded classic by any man’s standard. If you refute my claim check Mr. Hood again. They were wise beyond their years. Now the only thing that comes out of these young Emcees mouths. Is what the fifty before them already said.

Doom & Def did do a fun mixtape together I heard on imeem. Can’t remeber what it was called though?

“Got the truncheon when saw son lucheon
Nurses arguing over who’s to do the spongin”

“They called the fool retarded hair guy
in school you could spot it when he nodded here, why”

“Few could do it, even fewer could sell it
Take it from the dude who wear a mask like a tarded helmet”

  30. avatar SoulDojo87

Every weet it’s mistery meat… DOOM is the illest

  31. avatar JANE J.

    DOOM MOOD ROCKS!!!
Doom is the sum of what he hears, sees, thinks, feels…I wish other MCs could summarize in their own way + use their skills to show that. his lyrics, rhymes, beats, samples – totally fresh! respect.

I almost forgot, Mos please get a record player! :)

  32. avatar mallymal777

this is the saddest day in hip hop…mos likes DOOM?! for real?! this is garbage!

  33. avatar cfr

how sick would a “Mos Doom” album be?

  34. avatar splashgordon

I’m with Mos. Push culture rather than product. Allow for the kinds of battles Mos suggests for fun and in the spirit of competition & entertainment by artist centered idea generation.

DOOM vs. Wayne? DOOM vs LUPE is a step above.

  35. avatar The Shamwow guy

DOOM all capitals no trick spelling!

  36. avatar K-9

What I love about this is that Mos takes me back to when I really started listening to lyrics and would recite them lines. DOOM ones up every other lyricist though because his whole song is a sick one liner… that makes perfect sense in the whole.

    Def vs. DOOM on imeem:

    http://tinyurl.com/DOOMos

mostly Mos over DOOM beats & vice versa. not cosigned by either of them, but still dope. def worth the time to peep it.

Mos love Hip Hop. I bet half of the rappers out right now couldn’t spit another Emcee’s rhymes. Pathetic. To be a part of the game, you have to study it. Too many rappers claim to be mastered and they haven’t taken notes from other artists. Take notes little fellas.

  39. avatar passerby

mos just loves music. i really admire that about him. i like that comment he made re: de la soul.

  40. avatar www.myspace.com/redcapmedia

“Rumor has, it was a S curl accident”

  41. avatar Saint15

Yeah this is hot as hell. Mos is a scholar. I love Doom. But as much as I listen to his rhymes I hardly have the patience to dissect the lyrics. I do know all the words to one One Beer, though.

I have to go back to his KMD library.

  42. avatar phillykid

mallymal777? Why is that a shock to you? A LEAST HE DIDN’T SAY THAT HE WANTED TO COLLAB WITH SOULJABOY!! DOOM IS THE BEST!!!

  43. avatar colinlbc

i hope this shuts anyone up who says doom is non sensical and makes them realize they just dont get it

  44. avatar b dogg

dooms the best underground artist ever excluding no one

  45. avatar cundy

“Give a MC a rectal hysterectomy
Electron removal of the bowls, foul technically
Don’t expect to see the recipe
Until we receive the check as well as the collection fee”

DOOM is the best mainstream (he sells records, thats why i call him mainstream) rhymer in the world today.
