The U.S. leg of Lupe Fiasco's Steppin' Laser tour kicked off in Claremont, California last week. As we previously mentioned, Lupe is performing new music off of his upcoming album, Lasers, throughout the tour. I love Lupe, but he’s too self-righteous for his own good. He doesn’t put out half as much material as his peers, but he somehow thinks it justifies him being a “non-commercial” artist.
He then does this whole rock thing and it confuses me. Is his music so epic that we have to wait ages to hear new stuff from him? I don’t think so…
I really don’t expect his new album to be as good as “Food & Liquor” but I hope I’m wrong, cause I really respect Lupe as a rapper.
@ antoinexxx: You’re not making sense. What does the rock styling have to do with him not “releasing as much music as his peers?” And what does is supposedly conservative output have to do with him being non-commercial? Where has he stated that he is non-commercial due to his not dropping 10 mixtapes per year?
I doubt the new material will sound so rock-ish on the actual cd. It just sounds that way because he’s rocking with a live band. I’m sure that made for a good show though. Sounds like the new material is gonna be sick shit.
@antoinexx: the reason he stopped putting out mixtapes is because people were stealing his rough songs and putting them out in unfinished forms, any kinda artist would have a problem with people showing off there rough drafts. All the official ones he put out are better than the leaked ones.
Far as the album goes hes being supressed by the label, dude has Lasers done already plus he already has another one half finished. And the whole rock thing, alot of artist are breaking the barrier between genres of music and all of lupes rock type music is great, go look up the band japanese cartoon
