History DEFINITELY repeats itself. Is’nt the “player/mafia-wannabe” climate of Hip Hop that De La addressed back in ’96 with “Stakes Is High” kind of mirror the “bling/I’m a goon” era that is running out of steam right now?

Who wasn’t bumping Stakes on their pre-iPod walkman/cd player and listening to on it on headphones that was missing the foam earpiece? I’m amazed how this joint is still relevant. These dudes were prophets back in ’95-’96 when they dropped Stakes Is High ’cause the culture hasn’t changed one bit. Just goes to show how hip-hop in general still has a long ways to go till it grows up.
