Video: Common Promises Return To Raw Hip-Hop on Next LP

Here's some great news that I'm sure y'all will appreciate as well. Common recently did an interview with MTV discussing his upcoming album, The Believer. Com says  with this LP, he's getting back with Chi-Town producers No I.D., Kanye West, and Twilite Tone to craft that raw hip-hop sound. There's no release date as of now for Com's upcoming 9th solo LP.

I miss the old common sound I truly do but I highly doubt there’s gonna be anything “raw” on his new album..kanye west doesn’t make raw beats period and NO ID definitely departed from his old sound as well..hopefully I’m proven wrong though.

can’t wait. may be aad pharell and timberland on the list and here comes blueprints 4.
i just hope they bring good music.
    the believer. i’m starting praying.

Thank god. I really wasn’t feelin’ Universal Mind Control at all. – Kani, The Black Art Depot

  4. avatar DJ CROSSFADER

be was incredible but it wasnt exactly raw anything after has just been mad commercial

What does “raw” even mean though? Hard beats? Clever and complicated rhymes? Street stories? Common just said on a sneak peek for Current TV’s new show Embedded that he constructs his albums while driving around. He said something to the effect that since he’s in LA now, he drives up and down the PCH(Pacific Coast Highway).

Word though, Common used to make albums with a 96 Crayola pack and his last couple have been a 32 pack.

People, this is the album I’ve been waiting for since, One Day !

thats what he people want take it back to cb breaker 1-9. that raw peedee weestrow style. ya herd. only true old school common fans remeber that aka on ya boy.

  8. avatar Mekapplebum

Definately can’t wait for him to take it back…Think majority of the hip hop headz miss that Old Common Sound…only if Dilla was still around…ish would def be CRAZY!!! But I still believe in “the BELIEVER” :)

word up MPH…you know they are more than capable of creating some of the illest “hip hop” style beats but they kind of seem like artists who don’t wanna revisit old methods, which I can respect but not necessarily “feel” ya know??

  10. avatar yay!

THANK YOU COMMON! ONE more raw classic before you get too old homie!

I can honestly say Common was close to reaching that Jay Z level in terms of consistency before he dropped UMC (I prefer common but you can’t front on Jay’s catalog). I was hoping that joint was better so I could have some good material for my next hip hop debate but he dropped a dud and I had to keep it humble. If he picks the right beats it could be a solid joint. Kanye is off his game right now. But ultimately it’s Common’s choice….

Jay Z is wack his flow and rhyme scheme is elementary. You like that trash?lmao Common is 30 times better than Jay z. He fell off since resonable doubt. He can’t rhyme as a lyricist anymore just plain garbage. You ever hear dynasty? american gangster? And this new BP3 trash? lmao please Common can still rhyme and he has gotten better with time as a lyricist. Jay copies common and cats like Kweli he says it himself. He just throws wack verses on stuff. Listen and don;t believe the hype

I got faith in this next album! honestly Umc was jus his attempt to make party music! I can respect that, he wanted his music to be played at shindigs aswell so thats what Umc is and now thats done theres only one way for common to go now! so i have much confidence in this next joint! “What up bitch, its petey Wheatstrow and you dont stop with the hiedi hiedi ho (HI HOE) good bye Hoe, cuz if your lookin 4 a sucka (huh) Im jus another mutha fucka!
    - P.s. DJ crossfader im sorry but Finding forever was amazing!! and maybe it did put common more in the spotlight but it wasnt really commercial for me! Be was classic but I give respect to finding forever too! now Umc was commercial as shit! no doubt LOL

It’s so obvious that Common wanted Kanye and No I.D. on his album after hearing BP3. I can see the conversation they had, “Oh what up Comm? Now that I’m down with Jay-z, you wanna work with me again?” LOL, Oh well, i ain’t mad at that. I’m looking forward to this album.

There’s only 1 producer Com should be working with, Nicolay. He has that perfect sound to fit Com.

I wanna see Common + Nicolay happening 1 day.
    thats the ultimate rapper/producer duo
but only in my hiphop dreams i guess.

  18. avatar Habilis

Kray-Z, you’re incredibly ignorant. Its been pretty well known that No ID and Ye were crafting this album since before UMC even came out, so BP3 has no relevance whatsoever. Take your Jay-Z stannery outta here

  19. avatar Sir Beast

Com should work Black Milk, Madlib, and MF Doom. Done. Or is that too raw for him now.

  20. avatar The king speaks again

I wasn’t feeling the last album(but the single was a banger), but common is one of the best hip hop artist that we have. He is the total package…I disagree with the statement that “MF Doom ect…” should do beats for his record. Mf Doom is the most overrated “underground”artist out there. Common will come with another classic. As long as he keeps making “grown folks” Hip Hop then I’m good.

  21. avatar Dust on

Madlib is actually extremely overrated. i guess cause he hung with Dilla/Doom and releases his own beattapes

  22. avatar Dust on

i gotta agree that MF Doom is 1 of the most overrated in the underground also
he’s good but nowhere near the greatest.

  23. avatar Dust on

but… its true its only Nicolay that he REALLY/OBVIOUSLY needs to work with

  24. avatar Free Defy

He’s doin the same thing he did after Electric Circus. Going back to the boom bap is not necessarily a good thing….

  25. avatar Midwstchild

That is so cliche(ish) “I am bring that raw hip hop.” That’s just like cats use to say or still say “I am taking it to that next level.” I don’t expect Common new album to come nowhere near “Can I Borrow A Dollar,” or “Resurrection.” But at the same time I love Common’s music and I am fan so it be purchased when released. On a side note I thought UMC was a good album, he could’ve left off “Sex 4 Suga” it kind of brought the ablum down IMO.
