All of these were definitely pre-written, only a vet with nothing to prove like KRS would really freestyle in a cypher with talent like this on something for a major TV event, haha.

…’nother thing. A cypher is about coming with fresh rhymes. If they’re off the top and they’re fresh it’s a bonus. Rhyming a written on the spot can be challenging too. You gotta come to the cypher with energy.
KRS’s verse was much simpler but he came from the old school of injecting power in his words and really moving the crowd. He also did this at Hip Hop Honors for the Beastie Boys set. A true MC. Wale wrote something with a lot of sports allusions as VA said, but he didn’t come with a lot of energy. Mos, Em and BT had the illest verses. The alliteration and clarity of their lyrics made for a super dope cypher.

I have noticed that if people here someone in a cypher like this or on say Hot 97 spittin’ and they haven’t heard the verse before, they assume automatically it is a freestyle off the top and not a pre written verse when most of the time its not off the top!
