Video: Asher Roth “Lark on My Go-Kart”

Alright people…here it is, Asher Roth on OKP. I myself have been guilty of hating on dude in the past, but I like his flow on this particular song, and the video is entertaining. Alright commenters, go ahead and tell 'em why you mad…but please save the obvious comparison, it's getting tired. Asher's album Asleep in The Bread Aisle is in stores 4/20 (heh). Also, catch Asher performing at The Roots Picnic this year in Philly on June 6th.

Stop the madness Shamz you have the ability to Give people an opine about good music. This guy sucks, and the reason why you probably said”tell em why you mad”. Is because this cat probably though eminem was retiring. I don’t care if you are able to frestyle for 20 minutes. Hip-Hop needs to stand the fuck up and start impeaching wack ass rappers, and bloggers.

  2. avatar STZA

can’t front on dude when it come’s to humor and skills!

  3. avatar chriso

honestly..this isnt bad man..i dont get all the hate..im not loving this guy or anything but i rather hear this than hear “laffy taffy” and all that other crap…give the guy a break and lets judge the album..illroots is really reppin this guy..he even admitted that his “i love college” song is the worst song he’s ever written but its on the album bc he knows its good for it…lets see how the album is

  4. avatar Uh huh

    @ DincoT

So did you listen to the song?

  5. avatar who carez

    first off…I’m not impressed….
what about this that makes me pay attention?
    i’m not hating…i’m just being honest…!!!

  6. avatar Hood687

Not feeling this. I just can’t get down with dude’s college life references. I’m sick of this frat boy hip-hop. Shit is not cool. Not to mention the fact that he sounds just like…oh wait, I’m not supposed to say it, huh?

  7. avatar Acro 1

His flow is on point on this track. Haven’t heard much from him, but I do like what i’ve heard. If you don’t like the “frat boy shit” then don’t listen to it. You can’t knock on dude for being himself. Not everybody who listens to hip-hop lives in the hood or has been shot. This cat has skills and that’s why he is making moves.

  8. avatar DincoT

Yes I did listen to the song. It’s still wack. “frat boy shit” leave that to the beastie boys back in the day. I’m sorry but it’s true white rappers have to have something to prove to get props and this dude doesen’t cut it.

  9. avatar mi$ter iLL

this is better than most stuff coming out right now.

what, people can’t rhyme unless they rhyme about certain topics? dude is spitting about what he knows….last thing we need is more fake rapping. the flow is tight, the video is creative.

  10. avatar mr merrick

    DUDES FUNNY,

im not co signing yet, but hes lightyears better than lil boosie, plies, tony yayo, rich boy, solja boy, just to name a few.

and whats frat boy rap anyway did i miss this new genre somebody put me up.

  11. avatar My bracket is better than yours

Ya’ll listen to more of his music before you hate. I think Asher is a dope MC.

    Check the mixtape..

When asher takes over the hiphop seen im done…no parts…you know its over when a boy can rap about cartoons having sex and be popular

  13. avatar Jest Ruse

I’m not going to cosign this dude, yet. But i respect him. This is the direction that music is taking. Going back to basics. for the last decade hip-hop has been more about what you’re saying rather than how you say it. Kids not fronting. He’s making the music that he wants, and he’s developing in a manor that speaks true to himself as a musician and as an artist.

About time hip-hop got interesting again. The “new school” is OK in my book. Summer/Spring releases from KiD CuDi, Mickey Factz, the Cool Kids, GLC, Wale, Drake, B.o.B, Royce Da 5’9, MF DOOM, Mos Def, Jay-Z, Young Chris, and Raekwon amongst others. Never has the genre been so exciting. This is a good time for Hip-Hop. The internet is truly a gift and a curse.

  14. avatar Jest Ruse

Also, anyone who’s argument is that he’s a fake eminem.. Come on? We’ve all heard Em spit some nonsensical shit more often than not. The comparisons are not without warrant, but you can not be an Eminem fan say that this guy doesn’t have talent.

  15. avatar Raqster

So if we are impeaching wack ass rapper lets start with Lil’ Wayne, Slim Thug and the like. Music is universal and hip hop is it’s new language. I’ll keep it real for you… the menstral cycle is NOT A VENERIAL DISEASE!!!! Bet you never took the time to listen to Dutch rappers or Japanese or Korean rappers. I bet people would call that wack too, just because they don’t understand it. In my honest opinion these haters are no different from those haters who say that hip hop is not a real art form. Lata Haters!! Get your game up!! Sick Boys!!

  16. avatar Big Malk

Asher is nice plain and simple.

  17. avatar newjackjawnson

i got his tape from a friend and couldnt get through any of the tracks, his flow is elementary and the beats are unskillful, wish i never heard of this dude, this is bad for all humanity

  18. avatar Drewid

He’s alright. I saw him in concert with Common, he was entertaining to watch. But truthfully, there are so many other rappers that deserve to put on, it’d be like some reverse affirmative action shit if this cat gets put on a national stage before other more talented MCs do (Elzhi, Blu etc.) just because of the novelty of a white suburban rapper.

  19. avatar The Poor

    good track, nice Video! period.

  20. avatar phenompyrus the commenter

I got mixed feelings on Asher, but this song and video are on point.

  21. avatar Hood687

Man, you can’t even critique anything or give an honest opinion these days without being called a fucking hater. Ok, personally I think dude’s wack and I won’t listen to him because I don’t like his style of hip-hop. There is that better? Oh, and did I mention he sounds JUST like this other white rapper thats kinda popular…

  22. avatar J. FORD A.K.A Fly-Shirt-Wearer

I like it. What ever happened to Party and Bullshit? Not all Hip Hop has to teach or preach. Keep it up Asher!

  23. avatar gdocter

I just think this song is pretty bad; havent heard enough of his other stuff to judge him quite yet, but this song is no good

  24. avatar Jahi

GARBAGE….And you can tell em I said it….COme on OKP Keep it Quality. This is pure bullshit. Just cause you can put bars together doesn’t make you clever…or dope…

  25. avatar Soulgerian1982

WoW….at all the hate. At first I was skeptical too. If you want to draw a comparison or judge listen to his Greenhouse Effect mixtape and go on youtube and listen to his freestyle sessions. He killed the A Milli beat and talked about some relevant subjects. He obliterated the ‘Cannon’ beat as well. His sound/flow is similiar to Em’s but he is not angry and he is coming from another social-economic background then Em….He is not trying to be Em, he just doing what he enjoys….Let’s switch tables, how do white people react when black people want to do rock music? Yes it is our art form just like hip hop but some people need to stop being so opinionated and just let the music speak for itself. Hip hop is not ‘black’ music it’s universal

  26. avatar who carez

OK OK PEOPLE…. ENOUGH WITH ALL THIS NONE SENSE…. FIRST OFF AS AN ARTIST, ONCE YOU PUT MATERIAL OUT ITS SUBJECT TO CRITICISM. “POINT BLANK” ITS FUNNY IF SOMETHING ISN’T LIKE OR FELT THAT WE HATE…DROP DEAD..I’M NOT FEELING THIS…AND IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH HE BEING WHITE, OR HE NOT REPPING HARD, OR HE IS NOT FUG… IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH ANY OF THAT OTHER THAN THE FACT THAT I’M NOT FEELING THE SONG, LYRICS OR FLOW. AND JUST AS PEOPLE WHO FEEL THIS ARE ENTITLED TO GIVE THERE OPINION…THOSE OF US WHO THINK SOMETHING IS WACK ASLO HAVE THAT RIGHT.

  27. avatar vacuum scraps

hiphop needs a court jester. back in the day it was biz, eminem was dope at first but got too serious and into himself, dipset’s not bad, but come on – this kid is a dope lyricist who can take the piss out of himself and make everyone laugh. that’s where his appeal is.

  28. avatar Delgodo

Ah! A fun song with a whimsical video. I’m digging it, the kid has wit. I also love all the hate messages. Don’t it just make you angry? LOL! The beat is dope.

  29. avatar 2infinity4ever

dont really love him but his flow is sick, overall he’s okay. I’ll prolly pick up the album.

  30. avatar Mr. Radio

lol wow! i havent seen this many comments on one specific video or song. obviouslly he must be doin something right to get this much response. im feelin his flo. hes funny at times and his style is unique. true he does sound a bit like em, but the kid’s got flo plain and simple. fuck it…

  31. avatar IMadCuz

this is ok…but for all the hype he is getting i cant help to think people just dick ride its crazy he will probably get a better review on here than John Robinson did and thats wack go hop on the AR bandwagon…same with Charles Hamlton and Wale these guys are soo average and at times weak its not even funny…well asher is better than them at least.

  32. avatar J.e.O.

Rhyme scheme-wise, he’s closer to cool calm pete than em. The nasal delivery…and skin…and lack of more accurate popular comparisons…brings the inevitable white rapper=eminemen blogs. Def not the best in the game, but he has his own thing. Won’t catch me with his tracks in my ipod though.

  33. avatar bobby ray

    haterz everywhere we go
    haterz everywhere we go

  34. avatar Jmiz

    gah damn.
co-sign with whoever said the game always needs its comic relief. and with the dude who pointed out the double standard there (the whole rappers *ahem ahem* doing rock albums and what not).
i’m not on the bandwagon yet, but once again, everyone who hates ain’t a hater and everyone who loves ain’t a stan.
i wonder what everyone would think of this song if the video didn’t clearly show he was white.
And I have to back up Shamz on the fact that dude doesn’t put out half the dumb shit I catch on other music sites (ain’t gonna say no names), so appreciate the fact that you ain’t got the Boosie’s, Plies’ (who makes no sense, dude is mad articulate in an interview), etc. who are diluting the music.

  35. avatar Jules 78

I’m not really too hot on this dude. But if you listen to it without watching the wack-ass video, it kinda bumps.

  36. avatar phillyHANDS

this track is dope…….but his other tracks are WHACK……

  37. avatar grizzTop

talk about wack freestylin.. kanye’s freestyle cant even compare to asher… im sick of this “oh hes white and he sounds like someone i kno” what does him bein white got to do wit it? judgin by color of skin… rap is all about lyrics… he could sound like luda or t-pain wit these wack ass lyrics and autotune shit… asher’s at least real
