Appropriately timed, right on the heels of Al Green‘s new release Lay It Down, comes The Green Album put together by Omer Saar of UniverSOUL Productions. Using acapellas from MF Doom, Biggie, Jay Z, and De La Soul
among others, Omer mashes up some of hip-hop’s best with classic Al
Green tracks. See after the click, where you can view the tracklisting
before you download.

I would also recommend one of the illest mashups ever: Almatic – Nas meets Al Green. If you google Almatic, you should find it easily.

Are u serious?!!! Are hip-hop fans that starved for good music these days??? How can I put it nicely without offending the OKP Heads who are giving this a stern push, this is waaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyy mediocre… Disagree with me or not but if you are feeling this, you must be tone deaf as hell. Like Phife Dawg said, “E for effort and T for nice try.”

A nice laid back album, definitely worth the download. If you like Al Green’s music and the instrumentals that complimented him you will like most of the tracks on this album.

This is no revolution in music remixing, just nice samples redone to make something you can groove to. A summer time groove that you can hop in your car and cruise to, that is if you can afford the gas. If not play it at home or on your ipod on the way to the mall or corner store.

My only major complaint is that the audio clips on one or two of the interludes. Not something any listener wants to hear as it can be disturbing and damaging to your ears if the music is playing loud.

An overall 3.5 out 5 effort. Nicely done Omer Saar.

    Stand out tracks are:
    5. Fu-Gee-La
    8. A New World
    9. Mighty Healthy
    12. Stakes Is High
    13. Passin Me By
    16. Behind Closed Doors
    17. Travelin’ Man
