?uestlove vs. Jay Dee: The "Little Brother" Beat Story (Swipe)

Posted by Shamz on

Here's a real interesting story as told to by ?uestlove about the late great Dilla and the creation of the beat for Black Star's "Little Brother."  The story originated on the boards but was transcribed including some audio samples by FWMJ. It's a real good read and not only shows Dilla's genius, but also his humility. Click here to read the full story.

R.I.P. JDilla. I never knew he produced it, and it's an amazing song. As well as the entire black star album

first jus wanna say thank you Quest for the story.. these stories are so interesting and fascinating. luv the way u tell them too.. but the thing is crazy to me is that i used to rewind that loop at the end of the main ingredient track and called it what me and my man call "wasted beats" u know.. like '92 interlude and so on.. but to hear Jay Dee flip that is jus' ridiculous.. but for others that don't know besides Quest(others), there are so many beats Dilla did that are now surfacing that I hope get sold like "Donuts" and "Shining" his brother Illa Jay's project is an example.. i listened to Que D.called Rock the spot.. i'm still shakin' my head and that was yesterday!.. the illest hiphop producer hands down! thank you Jay Dee(God rest your soul) for changin' my life!
peace

yo im just so emotional with anything that comes to the name Jay Dee or J DIlla man... yall dont understand.. he was like our Marley fam str8 up.. This story is fun to read but at the same time i just hurt when i think that hes gone to a better place but us mere mortals as ?uest put it are left here to feast on whats already been done. Unfortunately like Black and Dice said on TFAP, "Nothing New"!!!!

this was a great read for real and to that "focused" cat and all these other wackass n00b beatmakers spamming blogs with your myspace links everytime i read one need to shut up and respect the artform. calling Dilla overrated is a slap in the face to Hip Hop.

everybody wanna rap and make beats now in days just because they love to do it. well just because you love to do does not mean youre good at it. spamming ass ngas. you dont need to spam if you got the HEAT. the HEAT gets notice regardless, whether youre in youre own town just bangin' them shits out or rocking shows.

big ups 2 ?uesto and FWMJ for making this happen. RIP JAY-DEE the ORIGINAL "Drum Master" (c) Baatin.

Real genius and humility seem to go hand-in-hand. Ya see, a real genius let's another highly respected professional (?) speak to his genius. Real genius is never self-annointed or annointed by someone who wouldn't know true genius if he tripped over it. Dilla, wow, I can't put into words what you did for the genre I love. You left a body of work that will be disected and analyzed for years to come bruh. It will have to be explained and broken downto us by your diciples. Thanks Peter! Peter
