Jay Electronica “Swagger Jackson’s Revenge”

Another one from the Scratches & Demos Vol 1 collection.  Lyrics after the jump.  "That's why I stay dougie, ask Tumblin' Dice."

Jay Electronica "Swagger Jackson's Revenge"

>>>> Download

its the return of the black moors with no fez
its eerie like that documentary on lisa lopez
pentagrams pyramids conspiracies with goat heads
knock down the levees
knock down the projects
start another  project
build another object
a drive thru touchscreen doctrine for me to digest
we just horses with our blinders on
drivin by the obvious
regardless who vote for
if the mind dont grow
and the poverty line dont go
but the dope keep coming
and the tv keep flashing images of a
sports car
then you bound for a coke war
the meek get clowned by the coke law(s)
the sheep get drowned in the folklore
then lulled to sleep by tom brokaw
what a pitty
the hope on a politicians tongue
never ever trickle down the city
so if a nigga put a presidents mask on
and run up in the bank with a mac saying gimme gimme
i aint glad at him
but i aint mad at him
if anybody ask you who i be
say
a painter with a felt pen who Drew Ali
im like Cassius when i blast molasses
out the ass of the masses
from fulton street mall to gratiot
im handin out free at last kits
yo jay where ya staff at?
Green(Lantern) said you threw it
yeah.
i outgrew it
some blogs said i blew it
nigga fuck yo blog
jigga man said you cant knock the hussle dog
im on the same launchin pad that shot russel off
thats why i stay dougie

This isn’t Jay’s best work, but it still keeps me anticipating an album from this beast. He’s so introspective…. I’ve been hooked since I first heard VooDooMan… Anyone else feel that Jay Electronica is like a blend of Nas and Canibus? He’s definitely an emcee in the same vein as Nas, but he also refers to more paranormal subject matter like Canibus does; ie ufo’s, william cooper, government conspiracies etc. Jay, quit teasin’ us! We need an album!

  2. avatar junclassic

This is crazy… lyrics are DOPE!

  3. avatar dear swagger jackson

i am pleased to inform you that i am taking these lessons to heart and my swagg meeter will be on 10 in due time.

  4. avatar Kristin D.

HipHops’s Savior you are very correct he is like a blend of Canibus and Nas.

  5. avatar Malik W.

he’s more like nas and mf doom

  6. avatar Hiphop's savior...

Malik W, I feel you on the Nas/MF Doom comparison… Jay’s rhyme schemes are very Doomish…. “That Kurt Vonnegut/… that blow your brain, Kurt Cobain that Nirvana shit../” … Yeah, very Doomish.. i feel you. Canibus’s rhyme schemes have never been the most complex, however, I was simply comparing Jay Elect’s subject matter to Canibus. I don’t think that anyone would argue that Doom has ever rapped about anything substantially serious or groundbreaking; rather Doom raps on some ‘Cartoon Network on acid’ shit… humorous? yes… informative? not quite. Hence the Nas/Canibus comparison. *Steps off of soapbox lol

  7. avatar cappOHH

just okay player. and i am not a “hater”

  8. avatar Nomad Sirrah

This dude never lets me down far as being creative and fresh to inform the people to “Up Your Wake” and do something to create change and stop waiting on others to do so. Jay Electronica is making his own way. PEACE

“The biggest room in the world, is the room for improvement”

  9. avatar better

jay elect is the truth…… nas sign this dude yo….nas az jay Elec and blu on the same track…..wow

  10. avatar Duncan Penderheus

I think Jay is a true talent…point blank.
Im not really here to compare him to anyone but I just happened to be listening to Killah Preist first solo, and thats who he reminds me of. not exact but so far as content and flow he reminds me of Killa Preist from the Sunz of Man/ Wu-Tang era.

  11. avatar bot one

    “Hiphop’s savior”
Sounds like you don’t listen to DOOM…
    Strange Ways

  12. avatar Saint15

Jay does sound like a mixture of Nas and Doom. That’s a fair comparison. And nothing to be ashamed of.

  13. avatar Hiphop's savior...

“They pray 4 times a day, they pray five/… whose ways are strange when it’s time to survive?/”
Good call on that song Bot One.. I own everything in Doom’s catalog don’t get it twisted… I’m just sayin, for every “Strange Ways” that Doom writes, he makes 150 songs like “One Beer”, “America’s Most Blunted”, “Kookies”, “Sofa King”, “Titty Fat” etc.
~It’s like saying just because Quasimoto had an insightful verse on “Shadows of Tomorrow” doesn’t mean I’ll be reaching for my Lord Quas albums when I wanna hear some Saul Williams type shit, feel me?

  14. avatar bot one

    nah man, listen closer..
he raps about the absurdities of the hip hop genre, the stereotypes, the idiosyncrasies

  15. avatar immaculate conception

vocals are poorly mixed, why does he keep putting out incomplete songs? This brother is very talented but seems as if he takes too long to write a song or has to pause and come back to it. I can understand cause it happens to me myself but why put it out before its finished?

  16. avatar djrubadub

    he’s rappin bout mike.

  17. avatar MikeChav

vocals=recorded into a laptop mic. its not supposed to be mixed, its called scratches and demo tapes. i feel you on an album, but the funny thing about great artists is that they never do what people want them to…….when it comes it will b on point.

  18. avatar Nyle

Old people shouldn’t be allowed to start careers. If you ain’t made it by 25, you need to go home and have kids that you can live your failed dreams through.

  19. avatar xavv

Canibus is terrible… hes not a good rapper at all… theres kids in my school that are better than him…. this song is hot tho…. jay is pretty nice

  20. avatar attica blues

    no, no and no.

  21. avatar KillaWatt

Ill go ahead and be called a hater. The vocals are HORRIBLY mixed. He is spitting REAL lame on this one. ANd not to mention the beat is really amateur sounding. WHACK

  22. avatar mikkay

this is incredible to me..the beat is epic, and jay is great

  23. avatar Dillagent

I’ve spent the last nine months listening and relistening to What the Fuck is a Jay Electronica. i think Jay is incredible, at his best he’s comparable to Rakim in my opinion, BUT i fucking can’t stand all the conspiracy theory stuff! there’s no rational explaination for it, i just hate conspiracy theory raps – yet i love watching conspiracy theory documentaries!? – but if someone raps it, i just want to shoot myself.

i’m sure it was jay’s influence that caused that bizarre nonsense ‘we’re not alone’ track on nas’s last album.

  24. avatar Lyve

    Moorish Science Temple of America
    Noble Drew Ali…word

dont get me wrong the brother is very smart but i guess im just waiting to really hear something

    EDP fam

  25. avatar Konfuzious30

its all very simple really Jay Electronica is a beast…anybody can say what they want about who he sounds like and compare his content ….everybody can say dumb shit about incomplete tracks…..talk about conspiracy theories …yada yada yada….but when this dude spits I don’t care if the beat is a trash can lid you all want to hear more…period! I mean wake up and look around it is funny how critical we are of a dude who spits the truth in his music but pop champagne goes to the top of the charts …lil wayne gets grammy consideration….and people consider Jeezy and T.I to be two of the best in the game…wtf!? As far as the “conspiracy” of conspiracy rap….it isn’t a gimmic just what the fuck is going on so why would you hate on somebody trying to shed light on to these areas…he obviously does his homework….and whoever said that you should only be a rapper up to 25 should not be aloud to visit this site…that is the most ignorant immature self righteous nonsense I have ever heard in my entire life!!!!!!! I feel like people are inventing reasons not to like jay elec….you can only make them up becuase there just aren’t any reasons not to feel this dude …..What the feedback demonstrates is the lack of respect in the American cultural value system for EDUCATION. The minority and urban populations reject this system outwardly but emulate its worst features. In america we don’t value education….so we don’t value it in hip-hop. So when Nas starts talking about we are not alone or Jay electronica,Mos def, Aesop Rock, brother Ali, Pharohe Monch etc. etc start speaking the truth they get ignored, put down, hated on and not purchased…..

  26. avatar John Robinson

Me and Planet Asia were just building about this cat the other day!

It is quite simple! THIS CAT IS BANANAS!!

    Bless

    J.R.

  27. avatar PurpleZoe/PurpleMag.com

    Scary how good this is.

  28. avatar Juicyfruit

14KT on the beat if you wanted to know…This track is epic*

  29. avatar Pos P 2012

Jay elect is the truth! Hands down. I mean if we as a culture want to be continusly dumbed down to get our point across then u go with “them.” if not i suggest u listen to jay elect 5 times a day digest then listen to nas’s untitled once, nad then listen to dead prez let’s get free halfway then comment.

  30. avatar okayplayer dude

he isn’t saying anything lyrically! it’s not deep, or even well rhymed. jay elec has a few dope cuts, but this isn’t it. and that nas inspired track he did was wack too.

  31. avatar RaAkhenaton

I like it. Not so straightforward that I see every next line coming, this rhyme’s strength is subliminal messaging slung with a direct jab or two. I feel this much more than the remix verses on the Gnarls Barkley song…

  32. avatar Black Betty

You can’t expect someone like Jay Elect to be welcomed with open arms by everyone, simply because he’s not like anyone and like Michael Jackson you’re gonna get ppl who are gonna want to shoot him down for no apparent reason.

This track is a solid reminder that relevant hip hop still being made.

  33. avatar BOUIE

HE’S MORE LIKE JAY ELEC. INFLUENSED BY……….HIP HOP

  34. avatar BOUIE

  36. avatar Grrr

MF DOOM needs to learn how to do a live show. Lipsyncin’ don’t cut it. Please.

  37. avatar A Nobody I Guess...

Jay’s Articulate In Whats Going On…As a Artist YOu Can Never Make a DIffrence Being SO Direct Only Putting People On To Another Step Of Conciousness…He’s Clever Enough To Make Music Less Direct That Could Go Abroad & Could Be Authentic But His Plan Of Release Was To Open & At The End Of The Day By Making One Dollar That Way Is Contradictory If he WEre To By One Pair Of Sneakers With It…I Feel A Middle Ground etween Jay E’ N Jay-Z Is Needed…Revolution To Evolution. LOVE. Hip Hops Nice I’m a Listener But It’s About Feeling & Relevansee…He’s Relevant To Me & Works With Good people…Great Artists…Nneka ECT…Leave Him ALone Let Him DO His Thing YOu Really Feel Jay Stop Annalyzing His Music And Distracting Yourselves And Do Something To Push The Message The TRUTH…LOVE…BALANCE…Or Continue On Your Computer…& Be Apart Of The Rest Of The Population That Lives In FEAR…& Will Never Reach A Spiritual Evolution…It’s More Than Music…JAY ELEC IF YOU EVER READ THIS (*LOL) I FEEL YOU DO YOUR THING CAUSE HALF THESE FUCK BOYS WILL NEVER STAND AND LIVE BY THEIR BELIEFS – SEE NOTES’ Just Some Nigga From Toronto…That You Reached At The End Of The Day You Did Your Job GOD BLESS (With The Most Understanding To THe Phrase)
    PEACE….Vs. Energy…

  38. avatar koolklever

i dont know… jay is nice with words but… sounds like i heard it be4 in terms of flow. but my homie claudio is mad about him so ill just give it a try.

  39. avatar konshuscutie

Jay elec is a beast! Stop hating cuz you ass aint on! And btw its never too late to live out your dream eespcially when you are cold at it!GOOD ASS JOB JAY!!!

  40. avatar HI.

    1. You can be 63 years old and have to drag around an oxygen tank, a walker, a laptop bag sized pill organizer/ carrying case while being dragged around by two nurses and a seeing eye dog. As long as you have a baby by Erica Badu, you will always be relevant to hip hop. Bitches.

    2. If most of you children would shut up long enough to learn something, you might actually expand your world view and maybe even one day truly be as cool and worldly as you think using the word “swagg” makes you. Idiots.

    3. Everything in life has a point of reference. You will always unconsciously compare everything to anything that even remotely reminds you of something that you have experienced before. You can compare the man’s music to whomever else’s music you like. The real trick to reviewing a piece of artwork is to be as objective as possible by moving beyond esoteric comparisons and taking the piece in on it’s own merit. Why would you let Nas or DOOM or Canibus or any other artist dictate how much you like Jay Elec based off of how much you like them? I love the skill and artistry of Stevie Wonder, but I would never let that determine how much I love Donny Hathaway’s music just because they sound slightly similar. Fools.

    4. Hating is bad. Do any of you kids even understand what true hate is anymore? So you don’t like some of this guys music and you’re not afraid to say so. That is not hate. That is dislike. Very different emotions. Don’t become desensitized to what hate truly is. If you ever really listen to what Jay is trying to tell you, there are quite a few lessons on it within his music. Dummies.
