Folk&Stress – Outside The Box [Mixtape]

This tape has been a long time in the making – and I've been a fan since I first heard it a few months back. Here we have NY duo, Folk&Stress', new mixtape, Outside The Box. "Mixed by Hot 97’s own Peter Rosenberg. This mix tape pays homage to original classic hip hop beats being re-looped from the original records that they came from along with some of Folk & Stress’ original music." Features from Blu and GZA on the project (GZA's verse will give you flashbacks to the Wu in 90's form). Follow me after the jump for the tacklisting and download link. Shout out to Dro.

Dinco T- proper grammar, please. Are you saying that you are adverse to white rappers? If so, for what reason?

  4. avatar DJ A

damn. i see more racism towards white people from black people then vice versa. sad thing that hip hop can only be for the blacks. the dudes can spit. regardless of color. get past it, buddy. it’s 2009

No not adverse white rappers, but I feel that we should face the facts that they shouldn’t aspire to be emcee’s. Put it this way if they can’t hold a candle to El-P, Eminem, they should put the mic down. We don’t want to face the facts that from Rock N Roll To Jazz the white culture has destroyed a music from culture theft. Go back and watch the 5 heartbeats if we allow the watering down of our culture of hip-hop it will becoe another white washed fossil.

Excuse my grammar and my ability to type nonsense fast. For your statement regarding racism towards whites from blacks rather than vise versa. My statements are not racist, they are facts. 2009 to infinity there will always be a cultural divide this ain’t woodstock…..

Well, then shouldn’t it be that all wack emcees put the mic down? Seriously, I’ve seen a larger percentage of black emcees foul the culture than any race. It’s probably bc of this attitude that non blacks have a higher standard to gain acceptance. It’s almost as if nonblacks are not allowed to freely express themselves the same way as “product-of-the-system” ignorant black rappers are allowed. In all honesty, I have some problem with ignorant no skills rap, but there are times when that’s all I wanna hear. But if you’re out to out the wackness that’s clouding hip-hop, you’re looking in the wrong place. At any rate, the culture theft of rock and jazz occurred through the industry and not the white artists that were inspired from their black brethren musicians. Remember that we live in america- melting pot or salad bowl- we are a culture that was intended to enliven evolution in every aspect of life- culture, music, science, law, etc. You can’t front on Cal Tjader, Benny Goodman, Steely Dan, David Axelrod, the Beatles….

Okay I understand what Dinco T is saying but I wouldn’t say a watering down of the culture. I am black, a young black woman and black people didn’t hold on to what we know as rock music for long and we quickly moved on from Jazz. There are so many jazz artists that are white that have been putting out quality music(I ain’t talkin’ kenny G) same for Rock. Many times black people limit ourselves. We fail to embrace both, Rap is so minority dominated and revered for it that unlike rock and more like jazz the white artists that come up and make it are going to be quality. If black people move on from rap it is soley our fault and lack of vision. We can’t blame anyone in the 21st century other than buying into complete apathy and ignorance if it does happen. I support good music and good hip hop. If you nice…well you nice. Dinco T, if you’ve ever been to a true hip hop event it’s all love. It’s the most multi-cultural thing I can think of and everybody is all on the same page. Like dead prez said ‘it’s bigger than hip hop’

I agree with Dinco T. So what?

  11. avatar Garbage Bars

Yes. All wack rappers need to put the mic down. These guys included.

  12. avatar Wack Rappers Can Be of Any Race!

Couldn’t disagree more with your statement Dinco T. White culture isn’t destroying hip-hop, WACK culture is. There are plenty of wack mothafuckas to go around from all races. Bottom line: if you’re dope, you’re dope. If you’re wack, you’re wack. Period.
