FWMJ & Jay Electronica present Scratches & Demo Tape Volume I

Posted by Shamz on

Here's a pleasant surprise out of left field. I know there are a lot of Jay Electronica fans out there (us included) who have been thirsty for some more material from dude. FWMJ and Jay Elec teamed up for this collection called Scratches & Demo Tape volume 1. Volume 1 includes three unfinished songs by Jay, "Annakin's Prayer," "Hagler," and "Not Too Far From Nothing." Apparently there are two more songs to come, that we will of course post as soon as Frank liberates them. Rumor has it Jay and Just Blaze shot some staight-to-web video stuff last night in NYC to go with the "Exhibit A" track.

Jay Electronica "Annakin's Prayer (Prod. Jay Electronica)"

Jay Electronica "Hagler (demo) [Prod. Denaun Porter]"

Jay Electronica "Not Too Far From Nothing (Prod. Beat Autopsy)"

Peace. Real recognize real. Plain & simple. & I say that not to sound clichet-ish. All of us who are in the know really know what Jay Elec represents. 1nativesun said it best & I quote " Jay makes very Black music " simply put. To compare him to MF DOOM is just ridiculous & any comparisons to any one else ( I've previously heard people saying he bit Nas' style ) is just sad & obviously comes from individuals who don't KNOW hip-hop. Or these comparisons are coming from simple minded haters. Now I am in no way, shape, or form a dick rider, however, I am a black man that knows what the essence & foundation of MY music is about, even though it is universal & has universal appeal. That means this music is for everyone but everyone is not for this music. I don't want to sound like the judge & the jury but for any individual that is doubting his true lyrical skill, maybe you need to go back & truly listen to Exhibit A ( Transformations ) to understand the infinite mind of this man. After you're finished being intrigued by the beat, disect his lyrics bar for bar & tell me that shit ain't pure original hip-hop at its finest. Jay is a modern day Prophet & a Savior & not in the mystery sense of those words. I close this as I opened this, real recognize real. Peace

perez, sorry but no.

supervillain-esque, metaphorical, somber dark cartoon dialogues and soliloqui over the beat thing

none of that has anything to do with what he's talking ABOUT - and everytime you hear him mention a chemical its not a drug anyone would wanna abuse.

No hes not biting the guy - they don't have the same message, and you're an example of a fan who loves to hear rappity rap stuff - but don't forget the message. Jay Elect makes very Black music

I am a MF Doom fan & I understand exactly what ur sayin Carlos but don't you think you went a little over board on basically saying jay owes his whole style to MF? u crazy man! jay is one of the greats, when are ppl going to realize this? He's a 10x's better writer, spitter, etc. than any1 out right now. Have you even listened to the messages in his music? the knowledge? the super-metaphors? Pay your respects.

Gonna get a few questions off my chest. hate along if you feel me.
The whole supervillain-esque, metaphorical, somber dark cartoon dialogues and soliloqui over the beat thing. doesnt that remind anyone of MF DOOM? If not, how about J. Elec's flow, and rhyme squemes, and obsession of calling his wide range of drugs of abuse by their USP chemical names, down to the tone of voice(i know dude cant help how he sounds, but Ja Rule was never confused with DMX, and muhfuckas SOUND THE SAME!). Style rip off, swagga jack, copy cattery? no?. alright, mere coincidences noted by a hater with a vast music library and time (stuck in ATL airport, missed connect flight). I understand the concept of an artist being influenced by other artists. but to be called "a creative genius", and to be exalted as "a breeze of fresh air", take credit for it, and not mention MF's influence once?..shhiiieeeeeettttt.

I am feeling this 'Hagler' demo track. For those that can't respect the fact that it is unfinished, pick up a pen and finish it then.
Don't talk about be about it.
Respect the MAN! and his vision.

In Jays defense, his buzz is extra high and at this point people want to get there hands on anything this guy has out. I do agree he should release an album but I don't want his style of music on the shelves right now. If anything I want him to drop an album around spring time. Just my personal preference. I love the Haglar track. The beat is ill.

I have to agree with a few of the comments. I'm not impressed with the whole, "unfinished" music theory. Most times when artist have died, all this unreleased music surfaces. And it's cool to have some final works of a once great artist, but when the person is alive and still making music, it seems kinda' silly to put raw, un-mixed works out there. I know it's promoted as if it's gritty and underground, studio basement type stuff, but...... I'd rather hear something you worked hard on and polished up, just the way you wanted it to be presented to the public. I'd rather have you put your best foot forward, than to put out stuff you had laying around the studio and decided, "fuck it! I'll put this out! I'll promote it as the raw shit and people will buy it!" That's not acceptable to me. Plus, most "unfinsihed" songs aren't any good, (hence the reason they may be unfinished). Even the great J Dilla, (God rest his soul), had a few unfinshed joints, released that weren't good, becasue he didn't finish them, or think that they were good enough for release.

The J.Elec & Beat Autopsy beats are fire. The other one is just okay, sounds like Jay Dee's training beat tapes.

why would you released unfinished songs? theres a thousand better mixtapes out there that dont sound like works in progress (with a lot of progress to go from what it sounds like)
i refuse to be hyped enough to be excited about unfinished songs.
its not like he's dead.
finish the songs, then release them.
