Shame on me for not mentioning De La Soul's new album with Nike, Are You In?, earlier but I'll make up for it today, now that it's out and available on iTunes. This project is the latest in Nike's Original Run series, which has included collaborations with Aesop Rock, A-Trak and more. The albums are designed as musical aides for athletes as they workout/run/train etc. The format of the album is supposed to correlate with your workout, starting off slow then peaking and coming back down all within the time frame of a typical workout (40 minutes and change). I played the album while working out yesterday and I have to say I'm really impressed with it. The songs are all laced with subliminal motivational lines to inspire your workout (i.e the title Are You In = R-U-N). Watch the EPK above where they talk about making such a challenging album for Nike without compromising who they are. I'm adding one of my favorite tracks from the project, the final one, "Forever."
