Common (Sense) Demo Tape

Circa 91-92, and straight from FSD, this is Common Sense‘s demo tape that got him in The Source Magazines’ Unsigned Hype column.  No ID is said to confirm this.

In other Common related news, while it seems very premature to even be talking about it while we wait for Universal Mind Control (which we found out has been been moved to a 12/9 street date), word has it that Com’s album to FOLLOW U.M.C. (his 9nth to date) will be produced by No ID and Kanye West. So for those of you hatin’ on all the recent Pharell production, you have something to look forward to.

we got our google on for a good hour looking for a scan of that unsigned hype with common, or a picture from around that time period. nothing really turned up. we have some pretty old pics on a drive somewhere. the above is clearly LWFC era, circa 1999. RIP Mpozi

WHO THE HELL is hatin on Pharrell production?! Honestly, no diss to Kanye, but Common should stop doin Kanye produced albums. The last 2 or 3 times Common dropped an album, Kanye jus followed it up w/ HIS solo album, takin pub away from Commons shine! Com can shine on his own, w/o Kanye. Pharrell and other production is a g.o.o.d. look (heh heh)

This sounds like a cross between the Pharcyde and Das EFX. This demo can’t be looked at through today’s lense but I’m glad Common got better.

I haven’t even heard the demo yet, but no matter…if it’s dope or if it’s whack, it’s still Rasheed!!! Don’t hate on REAL hip hop…

YO this mixtape is hott i haven’t even heard the rest of the tracks but i hear ynot on the first track with common, and you know he killed it, its nice and soulful

  18. avatar Adidofinflow

He needs to stop playing and just let 9th Wonder produce an album…….it just seems to me that they are a perfect fit. Soulful rhymes mixed with soulful beats. But then again maybe hip-hop isn’t ready for that…..
