Audio: Nneka “The Uncomfortable Truth”

Anyone who heard Nigerian raised, German based artist, Nneka's, '08 sophomore album, No Longer at Ease, is well aware that she is a talent that's sure to blow up in a matter of time. The good news for those of you who aren't up on game yet, is that she's coming through with her first official U.S. release, Concrete Jungle, in February 2010. Her earlier music has been compared favorably to the likes of Bob Marley, Nina Simone, Eykah Badu, and Lauryn Hill. For your listening pleasure here is a track from the songstress entitled, "The Uncomfortable Truth." Check after the jump for Nneka's November U.S. tour dates. Naija on the rise!

  3. avatar Something 2 Say

No D.C.! It’s cool I know she will come through. You can’t hit Philly and NY and not eventually make your way to the DMV

  4. avatar Something 2 Say

Oops…Okay Vienna, but that’s not the city.

  5. avatar MWOLFE

  6. avatar Samsonite

Lets just stop the madness… why dont we give the new songstress of the week to develop into her own. We really need to stop comparing every new female singer that comes out to Lauryn Hill. She deserves her own identity. Anybody remember Ms Dynamite??? She was called the “new Lauryn Hill too. I miss Lauryn Hill just like everyone else but it’s obvious she’s not coming back. She might do a guest appearance here and there but lets face it… Lauryn has broke up with us.

Let’s play a game lets name every female that’s come out in the last 10yrs that has been compared to Lauryn Hill. I already said Ms. Dynamite. I’ll give you another one. How bout Jazmine Sullivan. Let the game begin

    Stop comparing to Lauryn-whoever.
IMVHO Nneka is not running after that. In Europe and Africa, we have been supported her for years and two album now… Remember when Joy Denalane came out ? What did you OKP folks say ? That Lauryn thingy is not professional and it matters when I read it her on OKP. There must be other elegant and straight way to review an artist than comparing. Come on… RIP Miss Nina Simone :-)

U have 2 check out her videos at http://www.myspace.com/nnekaworld (especially “Heartbreak”). Live, she is a great performer and full of energy.

Thus proving my theory that there has to be one hot Nigerian artist in the game to keep shit balanced… Wale, Sade, Seal, Chamillionaire, Nas (still a rumor)

    @ shamz:
speaking of german based artists… why the heck did you never post some of samon kawamura’s tracks?!

  13. avatar Mishoo

Good to see her here on okp. Europe & Africa loves you!

LOL!! Every artist with a nice voice and a bit of anti political, you hurt me baby swag is always put up against L Boogie. I guess that just goes to show how important Lauryn is and will always be. I miss her too, but like Frankie Octane said, L broke up with us. Anyway, I’m feelin’ Nneka, but no L Boogie references, :-)

    “…compared to Nina Simone?” Seriously?

And I just don’t hear “Lauryn.” Maybe Leela James; a lil’ bit.

    She’s nice though.

i do like her music, especially “heartbeat”, but i have to say i saw her perform & had to leave, never saw someone on stage with such a bad vibe, so negative !!!

  22. avatar Tony Ostinatto

I just want to know who produced this? produced this?

  23. avatar LALALAND

every beat from nneka is produced by dj farhot – an afghanian producer from hamburg germany

and her vibe on stage is the most powerfull, beautiful and positive i have ever seen!
