Audio: Ludacris “Do The Right Thang” feat. Common

The 4th quarter couldn't be more loaded with releases.  On November 25th, Ludacris will unleash his Theater of the Mind album.  Luda's releases have been consistently good and the new joints I've hard so far have not disappointed.  The latest to leak is the 9th Wonder produced "Do The Right Thang" feat. Common.  The beat already had me, and both Illinois born emcees come correct on this one as well.  Shout out to Andrew.

    excuse me, y’all, i need a moment……………………….
bein’ i’m from NC, i’m so proud and happy that 9th Wonder is puttin’ it down. plus, i love Luda, ’cause he lyrical.
but even though i feel Luda, i’ve been a Common fan from day one. i’m talkin’ before tha “soul by tha pound remix, i’m talkin’ before tha “Can I Borrow a Dollar” alblum dropped, i’m talkin’ ’bout when “take it e z ” was tha first single.
so, for these 3 cats ta get together now and put together a straight up lyrical and beat banger for tha ’08……..
damn, this shit gives a brotha hope………
    ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
    i’m lovin’ tha fresh air!!!!!!!!

  5. avatar dafunk

  6. avatar dafunk

    …and 9ths beat is nuts

  7. avatar Moe B

    Luda is smart.
9th Wonder beat featuring Common and you kick in the door of hip-hop purists.
Is this the first time Luda’s name has been on okayplayer?
    Good stuff.
I have always loved his similies but I stopped buyin his albums because it didn’t seem like he took it as serious as a lot of the top hip-hop acts.
Blueberry Yum Yum is a song all my smokers gotta check on youtube from Luda.

  8. avatar pure wrist

    love it keep growing Luda….

  9. avatar Driggity dro

I like it. I think this will be a good album for luda. at first luda had too many features on his albums. then luda created an okay album but his depth of character was not strong enough. now this album may just be the one for luda. do your thang man

  13. avatar Delgodo

Niceness! May the top flow-er collabos continue.

  14. avatar dieem

the track is played out, fuck man, i can never say anything positive about ludacris after he shit a big ugly brick in “max payne”.

  15. avatar Nile: The SoapBox Killer

    This is good paper!

  16. avatar luda

talib did a track with luda that was dope. luda made a reference to soda popinsky from mike tysons punch out

  17. avatar Hard Knox Life

That’s classic 9th wonder. Love it.

  18. avatar KiN CAMELL

    PEACE TO YOU & YOURS.

  19. avatar nero1221

never liked luda.. but common and luda are ok.. common always does his thang… but even luda killed it this time.. much love and respect.

  20. avatar bigphill

People need to stop sleeping on Luda…..just cuz he makes hits, doesn’t mean the brotha ain’t nice.

  21. avatar Mr. Love

Yo I think 9th Wonder is the big winna here. But Common went in. Luda has always been nice. I heard that on the album version features Spike Lee on the intro…
Yo I gonna cop this single or Luda’s lp!

  22. avatar PocketChange

even beyond the greatness of the beat and the rhymes is the message. we gotta support positivity like this, especially from a person who does as much as Luda does for the youth. fuck getting silly it’s too serious out here to keep supporting that bullshit.

  23. avatar black mikado

Fire!!!! Luda versatile with the subject matter, Common if ever never disappoints, as Chi town native I’m so proud of the quality that been hitting the streets.

  24. avatar Goldfish

why is there so much damn fire coming out right now?! i’m so excited!!

  25. avatar Dee Dizzle From The LA Fizzle

I always knew Luda had flow and skill tho I dont really like his music, Ive noticed some of his latest songs have been pretty dope, love this track! 9th soundin in his prime! Com spits decent with a lil more confid in his flow..Anyway 9ths version of this sample is sicker than mf dooms, with better drums IMO as well…Peace…

  26. avatar eazy

    pure fire.
9th did chop this sample up nicer than DOOM..
Common sounds younger than he has in a while, but compared to Luda he still sounds a bit too introverted to be on the same track together.
Ludacris really killed this one. he is one of my absolute favorite emcees, and people need to stop sleeping. the enery and personality he brings to every track alone makes him uncomparable, but lyrically he’s always on point as well.

  27. avatar Emmanuel

what a awesome combo…luda on point common is nice as usual and 9th makes another banger…this is disgusting!

  28. avatar Ill Prophet

Damn. My head just exploded and I’m looking for all the pieces. Dopeesteticfresh!!

  29. avatar big phill

I just had to add this (in addition to my previous post)….common kills this track, he lets the track dictate his flow…and Luda kills it as well. Awhile ago Luda states that common in one of the cats he modeled his style after, plus 9th on the track makes it a classic. This is what hip-hop needs right now.

  30. avatar fenom

wow, this plus “Last of a Dying Breed” featuring Lil’ Wayne…Luda coming hard right now.

November 25th is gonna be a big day. (Luda and Kanye)

  31. avatar Random Black Guy

Barack and Luda= light skin negroes that white people like cause of their “lighter than dark skin”…sure im being crass, but think about it.
If Obama was like “charlie Murphy darkness” black, he woudnt have gone this far.
WWE…who got more fame?..KOKO B.Ware, or The Rock?.
    think about it, muthafuckas.

  32. avatar Black B

Anyone hating on Luda is nuts. Luda has been a dope spitter for a while, people just thought he wasn’t serious (the Redman of the South). But Luda is bringing it here, this is 9th’s best hip-hop beat in a while, and Common kills anything.

  33. avatar ill-DAY

Luda! This content is great. Keep making message music…

    CHANGE will happen!!!

  34. avatar dj R-DEE

    Dope!!!! Str8 Fire !!!

Love the track that 9th put together and Luda and Common are two of my favorites.
I’ve been waiting for them to do a track together and they hit it out the park.
This is a GRAND SLAM in the bottom of the 9th.

    PEEEAAACE!!!!!!!!!!!!

  35. avatar Jonelle

This is great! 9th Wonder is such a dope producer….and Luda & Common……WOW!!!

  36. avatar Confucious30

9th Wonder!!!!! you are a beast……..Quiet as it is kept hip hop is coming back! I love the rebirth the music is starting to go through! M.c.s are starting to talk to the people again…we are on the verge of something special in our communities…mark these words…

  37. avatar Kalo de 78

hahahahaha!!! luda an common have swapped producers. i mean, any fool will recognise that com’s a beast on “those” types of beats rather than on them “other” types… hehe. what a pity.

  38. avatar yoyo

ok it was fucking ok but not as good as gotta be karims version

  39. avatar daonlyneo

I have heard Gotta be Karims version that was produced by Black Spade and features him I like em both but GBK version is older not to say any one heard that one and bit it.MF Doom uses this same sample on an album.

  40. avatar daonlyneo

reading all the comments 9th cool but find mf dooms version. it on mm..food

  41. avatar Quint

DOPE. This beat samples a jam from a 60′s album by Arthur Verocai – great Brazilian composer.

  42. avatar Stepz

this track is hot…..it’s got a reall good message. and the beat is hot 9th wonder went off on this real talk. I also think common was a good choice for a featured artist.

  43. avatar mark.http.com

this track hot they should do a video of this instead of wat them girls like

  44. avatar mark.http.com

luda man this shit right here is called death

  45. avatar Phillykid

    Mf DOOM versions sounds better!!

  46. avatar Phillykid

Its on Special Herbs MF DOOM!!

  47. avatar Mr Down under

Whoever said white people like Obama and Ludacris because of their light skin needs to ring up Mensa, because son your a complete genius.
Either your really smart or just bitter …

It wouldnt be whats coming out of each gentlemens mouth?
As a white person I like to listen to both men apply their trade, Obama, unlike the previous Leader can speak and speak well.
Ludacris can rhyme, rhyme well. Though I did enjoy watermelon chicken and beer better than his offerrings of the last few years he seems to be learning and getting someone like murs to help him out.

  48. avatar dayday502

the DOOM song is called Black Gold off the John Robinson album, and he chopped it way nicer than 9th did…not hatin on 9th but he got outdone on this one.
