I’m an aspiring WACK music artist…. and this is AWESOME.
I honestly think that with the acceptance of autotune, Kanye has found a vehicle for him to write perform actual non rap songs (assuming he’s writing his tunes too). I mean give an artist that. So, I’ll give him that. I actually like the tune a little. But again- see my last posts- this autotuning is already played out. Maybe he should’ve just taken singing lessons or just had someone else sing it. His musicality is near genius- not really consistent. I think his popularity allows him to think he can put anything out. And many times he’s right. He pushes the right envelopes many times. But I think he just opened the wrong door. Dre 3000 did it- and he arguably has singing skills. But he didn’t jump on no bandwagon. And a broad spectrum of musically inclined recognize his skill- and a broader spectrum feel it. And similarly there are haters. But Kanye is only going to touch a few zealots and a few may recognize his heartfelt intent and skill….but I think he’ll lose.

I’ll repeat-AUTOTUNE IS NOT PUSHING ENVELOPES. it is inside a tiny little box labeled “gimmicks for kids”. Rules for gimmicks- they MIGHT work, but once exploited by 1 artist, another should wait a generation before biting.
HOWEVER, Kanye is supremely gifted at constructing beats and writing tunes (if he actually is composing these tunes). He’s right to find an outlet for these tunes (again IF he’s writing them), but he should’ve left the singing for one who could sing. He probably could’ve started a girlie pop band and just made sure he got credit for writing the tunes. Much more respect if he did that.
Let me add, that I actually dig this track somewhat…sure it’s a little bubblegum…but if you stick your electronica hats on and accept that this isn’t hiphop, it’s cool (though, not exceptional). The Autotuning direction is wack, but it’s masked by the slight distortion (maybe not the final mix).
