Audio: Kanye West “Love Lockdown” (UPDATE)

Everyone seemed to have a very strong opinion on this song when we posted the live version from the VMA’s. Now we have the full length CD quality version with that beloved vocoder in full effect. So now what do y’all think?  Kanye‘s album now has a title, 808′s and Heartbreak, with a tentative release date of December 16th.

UPDATE: Kanye mentioned on his blog that a new version was coming and today it is here. It has been mastered, re-sung and the drums have been switched up. It’s a little lighter on the autotune, we think it’s an upgrade.  ‘Ye, Plain Pat, Rhymefest, KiD CuDi, Jay-Z.. are all chillin’ and recording in Hawaii right now.

I’ve been a KanYe fan for years but what I personally think about it is (and my opinion as an anonymous blogger does not count): it is worst than “Lollipop”. On the other hand, it is more infectious than Lollipop, so KanYe will earn I don’t know how many million dollars with that. Knowing how much the music industry is fucked up, Okayplayer souldn’t co-sign and post that. However, damn homie, this is fucked up, so I guess KanYe is laughing straight to the bank with it. And finally, I think this music sounds unfinished, so it is a clever strategy from him to make it remixed by those who know how to do it. This shit is a club banger, and a powerful hit. However this is musically fucked up. But hey, that’s the wy it is. I ain’t checking for KanYe no more. Peace folks.

  5. avatar Kanyewestfan

Man I’m so disappointed… Kanye been doin bullshit ass music with Madonna, DJ Khaled, Akon, Young Jeezy, Lil Wayne, even “Swagger like us” with TI, Jay-Z and Wayne was straight up bullshit. I mean, homie, fuck. He co signed Souljah Boy, and even KRS One co signed Souljah Boy. Hip Hop is on life support. Yo go buy the new Skillz.

    Peace.

  6. avatar BSK

I really like the track. I am a fan of Hip hop but also of music in general. With that said I would love to here more rapping from Kanye. I would also love Outkast to put out a “hip hop”
album but people evolve and do different things. Everybody spends so much time hating on other people its rediculous. Alright you dont love the track….cool…..dont listen to it again.

I will say the live version is a lot better……but to me I feel passion from that song…….its really poppy but it sounds good and I think he is saying something real.

  7. avatar this is krukid

the vocoder’s killing commercial hip hop

  8. avatar ClevelandsFinest

Okayplayer should post emcees that have no affiliation with any artist. There for is no reason to name drop with lines such as ” (Insert emcee here) who you may have heard on (eastablished artist mixtape) is comming out twith blah blah blah. Kanye needs to go back to the studio instead of the t-pain effect this would have been fresh with a flanger effect . If you are going to use an effect on your voice make a new one, the T-pain effect cancles out the emotion of the chours especially “the lock lockdown part”. Damn andre 3000 really set the bar high feel sorry for artist who feel the need to branch out, Kid Cudi better drop soon or his lane will be taken over real quick. Okayplayer post the next submission you recieve in your email you posted The Game c’mon people

Clevland Finest….you are right Kid Cudi you need to drop soon or your line will be flooded brother..Kanye are u okay? Get this man a copy of Dilla’s Ruff Draft please…study Nothing Like This then go back to the studio.

  10. avatar sabesque

i thought the live version sounded shitty…but shit after this its sounding alot better!!
kanye fell off after late registration anyway..

  11. avatar JayTeeDee

I prefer the live version better than this one… The concept of this song is cool and real and I can relate to it but the delivery in this CDQ was just not there. I’m a Kanye fan but it’s hard to ride with him on this one…

    http://jayteedee.mypodcast.com

  12. avatar shablamo

i dont think this is him singing.

    maybe a production only album?

  13. avatar D. Nizzle

….wow….im a HUGE kanye fan but honestly….this song is one of the single worst songs I’ve ever heard from Kanye….this shouldnt even be on a mixtape…I’m overwhelmingly disappointed…DO YOU HEARD THERE BEGINNING OF THE CHORUS???? WTF DOES HE SAY AT THE BEGINNING OF IT?! so sad….so sad…

  14. avatar RelentlessMC

the live version had more passion. This almost sounds like a rough version of it…i mean on the hook he mummbles the begining..and the handclapping in the back….sounds messy. he said he wrote it 3 weeks ago so maybe this is a rush due to the demand for it. The beat and lyrics are dope…and i like what hes doing..just sounds like it needs to be cleaned up.

  15. avatar bleedingeardrumsmurphy

Kanye slipped with graduation and fell off with this right here. Live version was way better. The music and message i can appreciate, but the vocals kanye shit. I aint askin dude to be perfect but after all the great music he has put out, how am i suppose to accept this. I didnt buy graduation and looks like i’m not buyin this joint. What radio station is gonna play this ish i would probably play that t pain lil wayne joint before i played this aight i cant believe i just said that i gotta go

  16. avatar Black B

I am just not feeling this. Its dull, boring. I know he’s suppose to be monotone on this, but its just weak. His lyrics have always been garbage but this is beyond.

Please stop being a shark n**** and do something that everyone else is NOT doing.

  17. avatar EYE-CUE AKA KNOW ONE

Damn… : ( If it wasn’t Kanye I’d probably bop it on some cool Fools Gold shit. Maybe too much time w/ A Trak and the boys. But it’s Kanye? He’s got an agenda and I aint mad, just disappointed. And it hurts worse than his heart on this track

  18. avatar Acro

i promised myself i wouldn’t buy another kanye west album if he used that damn fucking vocoder again. Sorry Yezy, i’m sleeping on this album. Good luck.

  19. avatar KAYTRADAMUS

WTF HAPPEND TO MR. WEST SERIOUSLY?! HE DISSAPOINT ME THESE DAYS WITH THAT T-PAIN SOUND EFFECT AND ETC. WHAT HAPPEND TO THAT dude WHO MADE JESUS WALKS, THROUGHT THE WIRE, TWO WORDS, HEARD EM SAY?
    EVEN HIS PRODUCTION SUCKS NOW
JOCKIN JAY-Z & SWAGGER LIKE US, LOOKS GOOD BUT EXPECTED BETTER FROM HIM! WHAT HAPPEND TO THAT DUDE WITH THE SAMPLES? OK I UNDERSTAND HE NEEDS TO CHANGE BUT KANYE BECAME WACK? I WAS A HUGE KANYE FAN AND NOW ITS WEIRD.
PLEASE I WANT THE REAL KANYE WEST!!!
    PLEASE!!!!!!!!!

what can I say…I like it

  21. avatar adam paul

um. best song i’ve ever heard in my life? yes.

  22. avatar Thisispopdamnit!

I feel I’m gonna have a lot of enemies round here. Seriously I think it’s a good thing that Kanye changes his style. If you consider it hip hop OK this is shitty. If you consider it POP baby it’s the bomb ! The problem is that all of ya suckas are locked in 98… Come on it’s 2008 ! Keep on evolving Kanye…

    But I wouldn’t buy this though… :-D

  23. avatar Thisispopdamnit!

But true, the live version was way more passionate but the sound was way too dirty….

  24. avatar Whitter

not feelin it…but im down with artists experimenting and evolving..so u go ‘head kanye.

  25. avatar Ockee Williams

honestly I Kanye’ is one of my favorite producers and
emcees. I think he’s just expressing himself on a different
vibe. He sounds pretty cool vocally, and he’s being comical mumbling the beginning of the hook. The production sounds poor but the melody is cool. Im tired of all the simplicity in hip hop music. Its scary cause he was one of the few mainstream hiphop producers using soulful samples, but now he got the bug
wit the gimmicks and video game beats.. so whos gonna bring it back? All Star Music Productions babeeee!
    peace

  26. avatar eddie murphy

probably the worst song ever made

  27. avatar Priest WL

itd be better w/ a full on vocoder, instead of the played out Autotune effect

  28. avatar bigtwan

i like the live version, but i’m not feeling this one. the live version had some emotion (a less vocoder). this feels unfinished

  29. avatar yadigg

is there anyone making good hip hop anymore? he used to be one of hip hops innovators. stop trying to be t-pain

  30. avatar PreciseChi

This is going to be the biggest song of his career. This is clearly not mixed…MAN…Yall gonna get tired of this long…this is gonna kill lollipop.

    I’m trippin.
I sound like I dated Erykah Badu.

  35. avatar Sandy Dover, writer

Man, this is ill…there’s so much hate on this…yeah, he used Auto-Tune on this one, but he does something that’s un-Jim Jones, un-Jeezy, and un-Wayne, something fresh and new, and this is what the response is? Pessimism?!

I’m not sure many of us deserve to hear his new album. At least he’s doing something heartfelt.

  36. avatar deonle

    that sucked, badly

  37. avatar Sholtz

I Like the graduation Kanye even if he was “hype”

But now this song and the vocoder effectshow that Kanye is probably dead

  38. avatar eazy

ive been hating the fact that Ye has been using the Autotune effect lately as well.. i really thought, as an innovator, he would be one of the few people to keep doing his own thing, and not succumb to that stupid industry craze..
however i really liked the live version of this, the autotune was there, but it was more subdued and used sparingly for extra effect, and even though he cant sing for crap, he was singing really passionately.
THIS however… ugh. the Autotune is overpowering the words.. and he sounds so UN-passionate and so UN-inspired when he sings the hook, that you can barely make out what he’s saying. like he’s mumbling. maybe its intentional. but it sucks. even the piano part sounds cheesy compared to the live version. maybe its un-mastered and just a demo version. i hope. but if the album’s really dropping in Dec, this might really be the finished version of the single.
DAMNIT. fix this up with less Autotune, a better sounding piano, and more Passion in the chorus and it would be amazing.

  39. avatar SSP Soundz

Do your thing thing Yeezy … like 50 told you. Switch the style up and watch the money pile up. Ya dig? Hi Haters !!! Now for some nead noddin’ hip hop check out http://www.myspace.com/sspsoundz

LOL hell yeah you sound like you dated Erykah. i liked it…don’t need any more of it though

  41. avatar Mr. Snuffalufagus"

“808 and Heartbreaks” I’m looking forward to this just like ever other Mr. West project. Mr. West keeps reinventing his craft.Other artist,if you’ll even give them that distinguished title, need to take notes and bring some new creative energy into the art form of Hip Hop.

  42. avatar hola benzito

this is like a bad joke. i’ll echo the sentiment – live was great, but this CDQ (hopefully not the finished product) is straight silly. the autotune on the chorus sounds fucking AMATEUR

  43. avatar spontaneitylove

    poor kanye:-\

i guess he tries hard, making something for the general eye, then some for the critical eye.

this obviously wasn’t for those who blog on okayplayer.

let’s see what else he has..

  44. avatar rah boogie

Yall want him to fail that bad? everybody has they time and 2 say Kanye fell off that is funny. Kanye changed the game i see why doing what he is doing..half of these new cats i shall not name names, bitting off the man. Kanye put shit on a stick and watch these bloggers hop on it.

  45. avatar TyShawn

Sandy DoVer did u say un-wayne? wow u must be deaf.

  46. avatar Kanye West.

I’m buggin… but yall can’t front… the lyrics are on point.
It’s great writing, and yes it is very heartfelt.
Andre did “Hey Ya” and look at how he turned out… let me get my Andre 3 Stacks on for a minute.

  47. avatar SaRaH BeLuM

Kanye is too good to let this happen…. somebody has to sit him down and make him understand… or maybe it’s like those people on American Idol that just don’t get that they can’t sing. No efx, no nothing. JUST STOP IT… PLEASE. It’s like witnessing a crash in slow motion…. man. HIT………………….THE………………………….BRAKES!!!

  48. avatar SaRaH BeLuM

    BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!!!!

  49. avatar Word em up

….just like that red balloon. sounds deflated and weak. my heart hurts. i actually feel sad, K. :(

  50. avatar ChedderCherry

The man breaks his own mold, for better or worse. This has some serious groove to it, I can see why it might be unexpected, but he’s making that vocoder shit his own. Go ‘head Kanye.

  51. avatar LIVEPro

Kanye’s A Star…this song is amazing….the expressive freedom is inspiring!!!

  52. avatar TeamSiC

Wow..I really really hope this is not a FINAL Product because it is horrible….Kanyes live performance was heartfelt and artistic…and this is exactly the opposite….even still today you’d think that we would just grow more conscious within ourselves in this time of age but I guess money IS the root of all evil….what happened to the Kanye that loved hiphop…I am now convinced that Nas, and Lupe are the only hope and last of the golden era…and that T-wayne might be the worst thing that happened to HipHop…If I was Kanye and had as much money as he does..Why not take the gamble of making the real music that inspired him to be an artist in the first place..so what if he flops and what if he doesnt….money is not an object…but the greedy are called the greedy for that reason…the ringtone and autotune are evolving our beloved culture into the worst possible form i ever thought…I love hiphop and music in general…we gotta end this…whos with me???

  53. avatar Give-him-a-break.

As an artist kanye has done it again & pushed the boundaries & explored new ways to convey musical creativity, which is what an artist supposed to do right? So stop dissing him like you know him & you’re mad at him (?!)

I think either way people were gonna complain. it was gonna be “too kanye” or it was gonna be “too wack”.

Personally, I think the track is fresh. I haven’t heard anything like it out there! My personal favourite album is ‘College Dropout’ but all I’m saying is allow the growth in hiphop! let it happen..and see where it goes.

  54. avatar EL3G 4 myspace.com/OKIZOO

Shit still wack imo. nigga you can’t sing. the VOCODOR
ain’t helping nigga. stop, please. just stop.

    thank you.

  55. avatar EL3G 4 myspace.com/OKIZOO

but damn if that beat ain’t hot. and the lyrics are good.
NIGGA JUST CAN NOT SING. SELL THIS SONG TO A SINGER
damnit this just pisses me off to no end. nigga God
ain’t give you them pipes for a reason. yo ass wasn’t
    meant to harmonize. *smh*

  56. avatar Philip Arthur

Let me lend some creative criticism. First let’s start with the positive. Though minimal the beat definitely makes a statement with the heavy boom and the additional drums add that drum line feel. Making for a sound that will catch the ear of most listener. Well constructed beat with the exception of the additional bits at the end. They seem like a first effort but I am sure this is not the final product so I won’t focus on that.

Kanye tries his hand at singing and for an average Joe it would be an okay first effort but the breathing and timing seems off at various points. Maybe some vocal training might improve on it or maybe not, after all not everyone can hold a note.

More on the vocals I have to mention the use of the vocoder. I honestly don’t mind vocoders over a vocal but honestly I think it was used to cover up some of the flaws and people use it for this reason too often. T Pain is a classic example of this. He might be able to hold a note but it’s over done by T Pain in my honest opinion. Save the vocoder for hooks and techno tracks that embrace the electronic aspects of music.

Props to Mr. West for an effort to step outside his box but at the same time be weary of your short comings. If fine tuned you might be able to salvage this track. Possibly add a few short samples on love, a bit of rhythm poetry over the bridge and you might revamp a track that will be under heavy scrutiny if released on the new album.

  57. avatar LiveSince91

Well i know this track sounds awful but i heard his new album comes out in the mid of November so i’m telling y’all right now this isn’t and can’t be the final product, he got from Sept to Oct to fix this track… I think ya should know cuz ya all dissing him like this is the final product…Anyway he teared it up in the VMA’s so i really doubt this is the final product also… All i’m saying is that ya should give him a break =]

  58. avatar Boombaye

    sounds like black thom yorke.

  59. avatar JanAKASlimJM

f*ck…is it supposed to sound like this?

this song is on par with “it’s so cold in the D”
    :-(

  60. avatar ugh.

this has to be a leak. there are so many sloppy parts to it. I really hope this isn’t the finished product.

and I agree with what someone else said…sell it to a singer!

  61. avatar Vea

I like it, its been stuck to my head all day ; love lock down, love lock down…

  62. avatar dj crossfader

THIS ABSOLUTLEY CAN’T BE THE FINISHED PRODUCT IT FUCKING STINKS GARBAGE BORING HE IS TONE DEAF CANT SING A OR HOLD A FUCKING NOTE TRASH

  63. avatar FreeBallin

its not a leak, kanye himself posted this on his blog.

  64. avatar ClevelandsFinest

After listening to this 100 times after blazing some sour deisel this song grows on you like all good music does. I have to retract my earlier statements this cat might me a genius foreal…………

  65. avatar Jenks

this shit ain’t even kinda good. it’s all the way wack. bellejenkins.com

  66. avatar ArianaLi

I liked the live version better…but if he works out the sloppy, muffled, & boring parts, i think it will live up its potential: to be club hit. it’s kanye, so tonedeaf, emo, amateurish or not, it will sell. (he should’ve sold it to rihanna though)

  67. avatar Dot Techno Mania

    ||| Very interesting. I have really been waiting for something completely different from Kanye. It could use something… love the percussion… Interesting but anti-climatic melody. Piano gets a bit dull. The vocal effect was used with class and with good taste. Love? Escaping from Kanye’s lips. He’s really being an artist these days… Painting what he must. |||

  68. avatar cla

This vocoder shit is real played out. I mean, we know rappers usually can’t sing, and it’s okay to get singy with having 0 singing talent- but this psuedo Zapp shit is annoying. Chromeo baby!

  69. avatar .maX

This is one of those songs you hate after the first hearing, then you love to hate, then you still love to hate, but, than you hate, however, you start to tell people about it, saying KanYe is fucked up and shit, however the song is stuck in your brain and you can’t help but singing it. Then you secretly admit you like it, then you openly admit you like it, then you love it because it’s a worldwide hit, and thousands of people sing along that song at every shows, and so many crazy remixes feat. Common, Mos Def, Andre 3000, or Q Tip will be released and you finally say to yourself that KanYe’s a damn genius. In the meantime, your friends are feeling the same effects than you, and they feel really fuckecd up about it, but hey, they start to love Young Jeezy or admire Lil Wayne, and even worship T Pain… KanYe’s a genius, and he’s gone get more money and more fame, and more projects, and more worlwide tours with Common his man. I know some feel fucked up about it, but that’s the way it is. Pop music shit or something.

  70. avatar CookieHead

The only thing worse than a cat who can’t sing, is a cat who can’t sing while using a vocoder.

Why would you even want to use it. It’s whack!!!! Commerical rap takes the whackest isht and makes it popular. I don’t get it.

  71. avatar R3Q

sounded better live but still lame regardless

  72. avatar 9000

everyone got their ups and downs and hatin on someone like kanye for still tryin to do things differently from what HE usually does, while at the same time he’s putting out dozens of other songs every year, for multiple artists, that’s just plain ignorant. even having inspiration, will and energy to create at all while working that hard is admirable, and say what you want about that song but he’s still DOING things compared to most peeps judging, HIPHOP IS PUNK if anything, so get down with some DIY before ya holla your opinion.

  73. avatar 10000

    but

he does sound a lil tired

  74. avatar YUGHHHHHHH

    NIGGA THINKS HE A ROBOT.

  75. avatar iNevrBinOnTvB4

The live version is way better. This CDQ ish is weak sauce.

sounds like some arabic, medeterranian type style.. shit is interesting.. the hook actually does move me.. i would change the piano tone but whatevs… keep changin the game up ye.

  79. avatar HeavyMental

don’t like it now, won’t like it when it ‘possibly might be redone and polished’, wouldn’t like it w/o the vocoder sh!t, 1 yr. from now i won’t like it… it’s butt. if you like this, it’s sad cuz they got u. next you’ll be sayin’ that charles hamilton cat is dope. whatever though. i’m just sayin’….

  80. avatar NUNCIO78.com

Okay I’ll say that every person has the right to be creative in expression… And like my mother taught me – “If you have nothin’ good to say don’t say anything at all.”

  81. avatar Cenanataur

I liked the live performance better than the studio track. I like the overall stripped down, and raw feeling. It feels empty and emotionless, just like a person feels after a break-up! That is the point, eh? If the final piece incorporates more of the drum and bass feel from the live performance, with a slightly tighter vocal performance, it should be alright. As a person who did not like “Can’t Tell Me Nothin” at first, I have learned that when Mr. West goes through a creative growth spurt, it is best to give the new songs time to grow on you.

  82. avatar destro610

yall are way too critical. whats wrong with the dude doing a love song? You cant expect him to consistently sound the same on every record. “Artists” grow and evolve. Did Jay-Z’s last record sound like Reasonable Doubt?
Now, if you think this is just another “sell-out” song for making money, I might agree with that too.
Either way, I’d rather listen to this than lil’ wayne any day.

  83. avatar Nelson&Djosa

I already had my doubts about Kanye, but this does it…shame on you! Think about how you started Kanye, your idols, the roots, the rhythm, the melody and harmony, waddup man? You’re wasting proper studio money when you should be making good music, step up!

  84. avatar CoSigned

this sh1t stinks like my moms armpits

  87. avatar jay22

this is gna get remixed to hell, kanye bums weezy too much. would sound half good with some decent emphasised kanye bars.

  88. avatar nate- haaan

    i’m in awe of kanye’s genius…lol

  89. avatar The Mix Mason

I don’t think this is CDQ

  90. avatar amachiyaminah

I like the live version better but this is still my new crack…

  91. avatar Dyvinesun

I think he should release the live version as a single instead of this one. It took a while but this really grew on me. I the Ye still going through alot and venting out the only way he know how.

  92. avatar imhotep1

youre too way over peoples heads KANYE…. your musical research b4 you open up your mouths and let the readers know how limited your scope of musical interests/knowledge stems….. If Lil Wayne and TPain is all you can think about when you hear this you are out right pathetic………. GO GET A CLUE…

  93. avatar random black guy

SAY WHAT YOU WANT, ITS GONNA BE TOP 40….ITS GONNA GET RADIO SPINS….ITS GONNA BE POPULAR MUSIC, AND Y’ALL ARE GONNA HATE IT, OR LOVE IT…….YOU KNOW HOW THE MEDIA WORKS.

besides the fact, i wish Kanye did the “love lockdown” chorus like he did at the VMA’s (more agressive)…..its above all a great and creative jam!

  94. avatar adamt19@gmail.com

rapper’s need to learn why they’re not “singers”. Kanye, you make beats, and you can rap. You’re witty and clever, but you’re NOT a goddamn singer. What’s with these rappers thinking they have a singing voice? If you’ve gotta use the voice synth to hit certain notes STOP singing. This goes for you too, 50 (at least he stopped doing it so much)

  95. avatar Herb-a-vore

ok… so this is what i’m sayin’, let Ye do whatever, man. Sells, doesn’t sell… like it, don’t like it. that’s what music is about. the fact that there’s almost 100 responses says something… as for me, i don’t like it… but i liked Good Morning. i didn’t like Drunk and Hot Girls but i like Two Words… you know what i’m sayin’? i think he fell off with this one, but it’s not his last track… i’m sure he’s got some dope new songs on the next album, just hold tight for now… We need a new Black Star album or somethin’ right about now to balance it out though. maybe that’s just me, i don’t know.

  96. avatar Super Raz

    What does CDQ stand for?

  97. avatar harsbars

i think it’s dope, shows he’s just trying to evolve.

  98. avatar Uhnderwhere?

    CDQ stands for “CD Quality”

  99. avatar Uhnderwhere?

Ok, now let me give you some food for thought!

Kanye is evolving constantly as an artist. I know, you say that you hear that all the time when someone makes dopey ass music, but the truth is Kanye is an evolving artist.

I remember the first time “Stronger” hit the internet people were talking all kinds of shtuff about it because they thought it was too pop, it was too mainstream, it had no hip-hop to it….and on and on.

So why all the hating?? I have to admit that I am a super biased commentor on this song but really give it a chance. I bet you that this version here is just a test version. Think if he lost the vocoder. If he is the artist we all know and appreciate then he will lose it or it sounds like nobody on this comment list will support him. Remember, though, he is the closest thing to acceptable left in hip-hop today. You cannot argue that point.

I understand the haterade and all that but seriously folks, give it a chance. You know that graduation was so much better than “Tha Carter III” so why are we hating on Kanye so much?? Lil Wayne was the closest we had to good and he stunk up the game with an album that sounded ten times worse than this one….

I do love this dude. Clever MC?? yes. singer?? Nope. Mr. West…play your position!!!

  101. avatar endJD2008

    Y’all some short-sighted muthas…let Kanye grow and expand, y’all.

  102. avatar Keynote2k

FYI: That *ain’t* a vocoder. That’s AutoTune. A vocoder is a different effect, as is a talk-box (think Teddy Riley, or Roger Troutman).

  103. avatar wonderboyblue

Almost as bad as drunk and hot girls..

  104. avatar dipher

This song aint no Sensual Seduction. What an unoriginal dickhead Kanye has become lately.

  105. avatar shawan aka nasty nas

    kanye is doing his thing

  106. avatar JBeastie1

THis song is bad…Kanye definitely doesn’t have it anymore. Put the voicebox down man go back to that real stuff.

    GET EM HIGH.

  107. avatar juiceman

yall sum haterz dis song go hard as hell!!!
    Kanye on his grizzy

  108. avatar blastman!

This is sad! I’m a Kanye fan from Chicago. This is wack. You know you can’t sing even when Auto tune points out your voice cracking and you being out of breath (lol). this cat needs to at least pay for vocal lessons.

  109. avatar ashley boo

i love this song!!!!go kanye go kanye go kanye….lol thumbs up

  110. avatar Black Betty

    1. Kanye is creative as hell
    2. Kanye is experimenting with sounds
    3. Kanye isn’t OBLIGED to fit in a tiny producer/emcee box
    4. Kanye can’t sing to save his life
    5. The beat is INSANE
    6. I’d LOVE to hear this sung by someone who actually sings

Overall, the concept of this song is brilliant. Strangely executed, but brilliant. Embrace the positive, critique the negative, and hate yourself if you MUST hate. You’re just mad cause he’s FREE enough to TRY these things. While you have blog angst and cubicle claustrophobia.

  111. avatar nu_russia

Please scream it black betty lol seriously

  112. avatar big_jay

THAT is what I was waiting for. sick.

  113. avatar 11000

it’s a hit, like it or not

  114. avatar hollaback..whokNEW?..

tsssssss….thats what i call creative good musik…anybody that hates just needz ta know he got on a whole nother level..

  115. avatar Makesfolkslose

I can respect that Kanye’s trying some new stuff, but this was just executed poorly. The singing in the newer version is an improvement, but autotune is just unattractive in general. They keys are just horribly. I honestly could do a better key pattern on my demo version of FL 7. The drums could’ve been so much better. This track could actually go somewhere, but instead it just stays in the same dismal groove.

I like the Ye’s experimenting, but this was too much. I love soul Kanye, and I even liked some of the Graduation production, but this is no good.

  116. avatar pfeif diggy

The newer version is better, It’s more interesting than the demo version. Guess I jumped the gun, but I’ve still heard him do better. Hope it all isn’t like this.

  117. avatar Pooz30

This is hype, i dont care what anybody says… and to get this many people posting comments about one song means what he is doing is working. Simple, but creative at the same time.

  118. avatar Pooz30

… and anybody saying Kanye should do this, Kaynye should do that… his job is to make music and make money doing it. thats his occupation. and he does a good job at it, so the only thing kanye should be doing is continuing to do what he does. PEACE!

  119. avatar Marko-V

I love the idea of experimenting so its gone get a pass. Give me a 2nd song for an opinion of the direction he’s movin in.
    get @ me:myspace.com/marko4aoc

  120. avatar R3Q

    still sounds like shit

  121. avatar bigtwan

like it or not, kanye is getting what he wants. he got everyone talking bout him. so no matter what, he wins

  122. avatar SSP Soundz

Yeezy, do your thang thang Doggie … http://www.myspace.com/sspsoundz

  123. avatar dizzles

not feeling this track in the slightest.

  124. avatar Tribal Union

    Yayo this is the shit, but I’m a sucker 4 a 808 beat I need 2 find a instrumental.

  125. avatar cenanataur

Improved! Sounds more like the live performance. Listening to this now, it puts me in the mind of Gnarls Barkley. As a songwriter, maybe Kanye should care more about this awesome creation and pass it over (sell it) to Cee-Lo and Danger Mouse. They would rip this shiz!

  126. avatar ELiNacHI

still not feeling it…..maybe it might grow…maybe.

  127. avatar kanyeugay

    GA….gagaga…. GAY!
This must be the song that made Vince Young take his shirt off at that gay bar back in May

  128. avatar eazy

    i gotta say..
    much, MUCH better.
those drums at the end there are crazy..
i feel the vocals are mixed a little low, but im glad he eased off the autotune a bit and added that other robotic effect at some points sounds really cool.. and resung the hook with more feeling.
is it just me or are those 808 kicks off beat?? they seem to throw the flow of everything off a bit.
either way.. im sooooo glad he re-recorded this, its pretty much exactly how i’d want to the final version to sound like.

  129. avatar lynx765

the drums are tight; it’d be interesting to see the video though!

  130. avatar suscoone

is it the new Cher’s tune? lol

  131. avatar heath row

    i think its cool…

and mr. ‘kanyeugay’ …. wow! grow up!

  132. avatar happytrees

damn kanye… did it to me again. hated it at first, but even the demo was growin on me, now I love it. got be screamin along with him near the end.

    can’t wait for the rest…

  133. avatar ReyesGlover

lol @ “he think he a robot.”

    good stuff.

  134. avatar sabesque

OH MY GOD I L0V3 THI5 5ONG SO MUCH KANYE IS SOOOOO HOT…AND HIM SINGIN EVEN THOUGH HE CAN’T MAKES HIM EVEN HOTTER…KANYE KEEP DOIN U CAUSE WATEVA IT IS IT’S WORKIN BABY…LOL…LOVE YOU KANYE.
    LOVE LOCKDOWN….LOVE LOCKDOWN…DON’T KEEP YA LOVE LOCKDOWN….

  138. avatar Hop purist

is he t-pain now? the beat is dope. But stop singing. Stay in creative hip-hop realm, if youre gonna use voice modulator at least spit some like on “Put On”. Dont go pop Ye… Dont do IT!!!!!!

  139. avatar pelican

If you put the whole autotune in the mindset of some kind of T-Pain thing it might sound shitty, but when you look at it as some kind of ‘Eiffel 65′ 90s inspired stuff, you put it into a totally different context (like how the piano sounds, etc.)

  140. avatar -ugh-

it’s horrible. it hurts my ears.

  141. avatar reznick88

listen to this song five times in a 3 day span, and then tell me its wack.

    Blaze dat dro as well

  142. avatar reznick88

and while you all do your stupid research on what instruments and devices he uses, im enjoying the music.

What the fuck, are oyu all music critics? SOunds good play it

  143. avatar Limetagonist

It’s different, but that don’t make it good.

  144. avatar Dillagent

drums on hte 2nd version are pretty fucking good. but the singing and (especially) the lyrics are awful.

to quote ye, ‘the vibe is wrong’

  145. avatar Sean br

Kanye has always been a dick,,,you should all no that by now, but his music is fire including this,,,put the headphones on and tell me you aint feeling this,,,

quit hating on Ye’s music and Clinton Portis

  146. avatar *H3 LUV'S M3*

THE DRUMS ARE CRAZY!!!!AND THE PIANO TOGETHER ITS JUST OFF THE METERS!!!!WHO EVER MADE THIS BEAT DID A DAMN GUD JOB!!!!!

  147. avatar Bristol Palin's baby daddy

Whateva the case, this negro has y’all attention. Commercially it will sell and thats the business. Let the synthesizers roll, the track is cool to me.
Artistically, I guess y’all will continue to waste breathe in criticism. Originality is hard to find, you cannot deny Ye is out the box with this one.

  148. avatar Skooter

Couldn’t agree more with “Bristol Palin’s baby daddy” Kanye knows how to get peoples attention.
Granted, this song sounded dumb first 3-5 times i played it but im digging it now. Within a couple months everyone will love and agree with this song, people are hating it now simply because their not use to it but once its played enough everyone will warm up to it and love it as they always do, it always goes this way.
The only reason Kanyes been getting hated on recently is because he keeps breaking the boundries and keeps thinking outside of the box granted “Love Lockdown” is no where near his stuff on The College Dropout cause it’s for the better. You people cant expect him to continue the same mainstream of style for all his albums and keep that “Overnight Celebrity” feel because he’s evovled and grown too much plus it would get boring, repeative and people would get tired of him. Its all about change, kanye’s not afraid to change his style completely if he thinks its the right path. He has too much of an ego for his own good but he knows how to make good music, and in the end thats all that matters folks.

Keep doing your thing Kanye, even though he’s a commerical superstar he always keeps it original and edgy and thats what i respect most about him, he still keeps it real and brings something new everytime around. Better that then becoming the next commericalized top 40 whore *cough*50 cent*cough*

    Skooter.

  149. avatar dj crossfader

it cant be that garvabe there is a lot of comments at least he getting you folk talking

  150. avatar nate- haan

yep. kanye has that magic something, he’s damn catchy but too damn full of himself, hence why his voice is over this way too much. but it’s a step away (again from wot he’s done previous) and i love the concept but it’s currently sounding wack and way too mechanical. (but i’m sure that’ll change) it’s a bit gay though and stupidly predictable and repetitive, but then his target audience did seem to become the teenage girls with that last album/tour. love/hate shit as per (the recent) usual.

  151. avatar River Kia

Once again, an outside-the-box concept!! I love the risks he takes. All those who don’t like it will eventually love it. It’s Kanye and he’s got the formula.

  152. avatar Oh Dear

This really is an terrible, indulgent song.

  153. avatar Goozer69times

    This shit it tight.

  154. avatar random black guy

ahhhhhhhh, the real version is awesomer.
why this joint is the bomb, and there are haters?? i have the answer: ITS DIFFERENT MUSIC FOR A FUCKIN CHANGE!

(*that felt good to let out….now back to my pad thai*)

  155. avatar bkmagnolia

trying something different – it’s the key to being an artist that remains relevant and interesting. if everyone liked it, now THAT would be wack. i dig kats that keep my ears guessing. you never know what you’re getting with Kanye & i like that…

    “you choose, you choose.”

  156. avatar D.HOGG

the final version is better than the demo. i like the song. i dont know where all the negativity is coming from. you cant expect kanye to grow as an artist if he doesnt take chances and try new things. everybody turned on andre after the ATLiens album dropped. but between that and the time aquemini was released, they was back and calling him one of the best lyricist ever. this album will be different because of the loss of his mother and split with his girl. we as listeners often want to compare everthing an artist does to their best of works. we have to judge each individual offering as such. thats why i wasnt able to enjoy anything kweli put out until eardrum. i kept looking for the next reflection album. its a solid song. waiting for the album.

  157. avatar gabbie22

    good music, can’t sing.

  158. avatar Yoz

Anybody who uses that vocoder shit should be shot. I don’t care if it’s Peter Frampton, Snoop, T-Pain, Daft Punk or Kanye. Could you make your music any more soul-less than using auto-tune?

  159. avatar eddie murphy

    rapper trent sanga

  160. avatar Killa KBz

Just wait to you hear it on the radio and not online, the beat and piano is sick on some real speakers. The haters will convert – they always do with Ye.

  161. avatar TuPapiSanchez

this shit hottt …cant wait till it drop

  162. avatar Kevin Sheaff

yo i love this song man !!! like i just love songs that sounds like they should be from 2030 or something all i have to say is Kanye put this on the air when you get the time. o yea and you will be seeing me soon, me-dancer, singer-poet just keep Mr. Sheaff in the back of your mind

  163. avatar Jp157

I’ve heard the piano beat form love lock down somewhere before but I cant place it… Can anyone help?

  164. avatar the hot one

    Man this shit bang hard

  165. avatar shabina khan
