We've all been waiting on this one, and now it's here. The latest release from the Levi's Pioneer Sessions features a collabo from The Roots and John Legend. "Levi's Pioneer Sessions 2010 Revival Recordings bring together today's pioneering musicians to re-craft the classic songs that inspired their sound." The Roots and John Legend give us a stirring rendition of Ernie Hines' "Our Generation." This track will also appear on JL and The Roots' upcoming collabo album, Wake Up, which is set to drop September 21st. Check after the jump for a behind the scenes look at the song's creation.

Can’t wait to hear this one. Big year for the Roots.
Loved How I got Over now looking forward to Wake Up. The Roots are amazing.
Thats Gansta
Not a fan…too clean sounding. Doesn’t really add anything to the original at all.
Good work! It is too clean however; to put on.
The Roots should do a callabo album with Badu, Saadiq, D’Angelo, etc..

this is so fresh and needed…
SO over John Legend. His performance with The Roots at The Picnic nearly put me to sleep. This “Our Generation” song isn’t doing anything for me. The “Doin’ It Again” chorus haunts my dreams. I’m just not looking forward to anything he is doing anymore, especially when I hear he has a collabo album with my favorite band (from this song it seems like Black Thought probably won’t appear on “Wake Up”). I used to love his “Live at SOB’s” album but I can’t really even stomach that anymore after being inundated with John Legend over the past month.
Black Thought will be on Wake Up. Check this video of another song from the album http://www.johnlegend.com/ca/splash My guess is that Black Thought won’t get a lot mic time, but it still will be a great album.
A second roots album.
OMG
John Legend is a quality singer, but he’s hardly a versatile singer, and is never ever riveting like a Teddy P. PPL overlook his limitations due to him being a “nice guy” and palatable to basically everyone. JL is cool, and his music is good, he just has his limits. This joint is cool tho.
the roots can’t win. they put together a real great sounding album (so far) with a very good, AND popular, singer, and half of y’all can’t wait to hate on the album. no wonder so many great artist and groups never blow up. fake ass fair weather fans.
shit sounds great, it’s just your ears that are fucked up. some of y’all just can’t hear good music. and lol @ dude saying john legend is cool, but he’s not teddy p. of course he’s not teddy pendergrass your moron. hell, d’angelo, bilal, cody, and them ain’t seeing teddy p either.
@troof Speaka
most of these ‘fans” are probably tone deaf
Someone please tell The Roots to do exactly the same thing, but with D’Angelo instead. John Legend is cool and all, but D has more talent in his pinky than JL will ever have…
That being said, I’m excited to hear the rest of ‘Wake Up’ (especially if they let Tariq loose on a few tracks)…
