Audio: Erykah Badu “Jump Up In The Air ( Stay There)” feat. Lil Wayne & Bilal

On Friday, Erykah Badu had twitter in a frenzy when she revealed that later in the evening she would be unleashing a surprise via her website. The surprise was a teaser clip (that has since been removed) that played her new song "Jump Up In The Air (Stay There)" featuring Lil' Wayne and Bilal. When a low quality rip of this song hit the net in December, there were rumors that E would release 10 different versions of this track, each featuring a different MC. Who knows if that will still happen, but this version is more than hype enough for me. Erykah's New Amerykah Part Two: Return of The Ankh will be out March 30th (maybe). Check after the jump for the album tracklisting, featuring an all-star lineup of producers.

Why in the “HELL” is Lil’ Wayne on this track?

  2. avatar UHMinSoCal

Is Erykah still using GarageBand? Either way, I don’t this track is that good.

  3. avatar STZA

it’s certainly not wack! but i need to listen to it a few times more, i’m not really convinced right now

  4. avatar Promeneur

I like it ! I was like “it sounds like some funkadelic shit” then I discovered that it was in fact a remake of one of their songs

  5. avatar whitman88

what tha feezy? The Soulquarians movement is truly dead, damn.

  6. avatar The Key Files

I think its cool… its a remake, so i get the repetitiveness & lack of verses. Bilal, E. Badu & Lil’Wayne is quit a combo. Would have like to hear more of Bilal besides the background filler. I did like a number of the tracks on her last album so I hope i do as well on this one.

    Go head girl!

  7. avatar dapluva!

she could have gotten 3000 or Lupe Fiasco to join her on this instead of lil wayne gay devil worshipping azz but if you talking about the track its o.k. its not her best work by far its like a b-side throw away song album filler needless to say i’m very disappointed in this ms badu lets just scrap this one and try again .

  8. avatar Izak

can’t hate lil wayne in this, song aint great. but lil wayne didnt degrade it as much as i thought he would

  9. avatar ,,,

    wack as hell.. c’mon erykah

  10. avatar Steel

I see the OKP Haters have once again come out to play…

This is definately not wack…it’s most definately Mrs E. doing what she does best, CREATE! It’s a serious remake that she puts work in on.

Why is Lil Wayne on it? Because she wanted him to be just like she wanted Bilal on it. Get over yourselves already. Wayne actually put in a nice ride over the funky track.

No, not her best but still far from bad.

  11. avatar High Life

What?!! this is so dope! Open your ears, boys and girls, move forward.

  12. avatar DJ CROSSFADER

    LIL WAYNE?????????????????? WHAT THE FUCK

  13. avatar DJ CROSSFADER

At least this garbage is only an internet only track

  14. avatar Jericho Drumm

    @ Steel

“…nice ride?” This dude “claims” that he doesn’t write any of his rhymes; which is painfully obvious. To paraphrase the great B.A. Baracus, “enough of the jibber-jabber.” Lil’ Wayne is extremely overrated.

And it seems that you’re outnumbered by the “haters.” If we don’t like it, then we don’t like it, that doesn’t mean that we’re hating. Hmmmm…where have I heard that before?

  15. avatar KD06

We all have different taste. This is good music for sure but to some of you the fact Wayne in on there it’s instantly criticized. He serves his purpose on the track but I guess if he’s anything other than a “real hip hop/backpacker” it’s against the rules for them to make music. I bang with Badu I’m looking forward to the album.

  16. avatar Jahi

umm. no thanks..I’ll wait for the main course…the album

  17. avatar dsdsfsdf

dammn fuck this shit. lil wayne.lil wayne is really bad too. bleeehhh. she lost it.this is trash. dope that ta’raach is on the album though

  18. avatar GGx

    @Steel.

    Dude what the fuck??
We are fucking allowed to write here what we think about the track. If we don’t like it , we don’t like it. So you think we should be all confirmist and just repeat what every fucking dickhead out there is saying? It’s nice to see some people haven’t lost their mind.
And why don’t you have any sympathy towards the fans? dicredeting lil wayne is a good thing, cause we don’t fucking agree with him. We believe that what he stands for is wrong and therefore we don’t like to see artists which we do appreciate working together with him. Like I also wouldn’t like a vocal or whatever of george bush on her track, because I don’t like him and don’t like what he stands for in any way.

  19. avatar jme3000

well i like it…and i dont mind lil wayne on tha carter 3…we all have different taste i suppose but different would the reaction be if mos, comm(??) or 3000 was on this instead??…

  20. avatar BLaKscoTT

Erykah keep that funk alive baby! Not a fan of Lil Wayne but that was some funky ish. Now i need to clean the dust off my ceiling fans damn, LOL!

  21. avatar dapluva!

in the words of rakim….Back to the lab….this wack erykah do over

  22. avatar IQ4U

Hot as fire! This beat is banging. Wayne, not the best feat artist for this track ,but he brings a different element to the song.

  23. avatar Maduka

F*ck Lil’ Wayne, he ruins his own songs and peoples minds with his terrible c-RAP. I’m really disappointed, the beat isn’t even good. I’ll still support Erykah Badu, and buy this album, but “Jump In The Air (Stay There)” Won’t Get Played.

  24. avatar mselim

garbage. the beat is way too pop. lil wayne is whack. i’m really disappointed in erykah because she is so much better than this.

  25. avatar clarence 13X

i don’t know what the say. I guess ambiguity is the new way we are suppose to listen to music. Eventually everything after 2001 will suck equally.

  26. avatar decoder

Dope song, Lil Wayne feature notwithstanding. I prefer the version she did live though, but it’s a Web only track so WHO CARES?.

For all the haters, open your eyes and look at the credits/tracklisting. If you think Erykah’s ‘fallen off’ or that the album’ll be anything but DOPE, you need your head examined.

Just to clarify: Dilla, Madlib, James Poyser, Karriem Riggins, ?uesto, Georgia Ann Muldrow, etc.

  27. avatar Steel

Everyone does and should have their own opinion but it seems me that even decent music that includes certain people will get shit on just because. No real reason except that “‘so-in-so’ doesn’t stand for what we stand for” ect, ect, ect. Hate it because it’s wack, don’t hate it because your supposed to simply based on what you think about someone. Speaking of being a conformist (correct spelling), it’s interesting who gets the bad press here and who doesn’t simply based on what ‘camp’ they roll in. Apparently Mrs. E digs Wayne enough to have a collabo with him.

  28. avatar dapluva!

ERYKAH THIS IS WACK SUPER WACK DO NOT MAKE THIS A OFFICIAL 1ST SINGLE ITS NOT DOPE ENOUGH FOR YOU LIL WAYNE IS WACK HE SERVES NO PURPOSE ON THE MIC AT ALL ERYKAH THIS IS WACK TRASH THE SONG AND COME BACK HARDER NEXT TIME

  29. avatar look @ the producers for this song

then look at how those producers aren’t on any of the album tracks. i like the song well enough (not the best in the world, but w/e) but for all those haters, it’s pretty obvious this is a one-off thing not connected to the album proper. chill.

  30. avatar T.R.U.E.-One

    i agree with dapluva!: …

  31. avatar DSMITH FOR ELMUSADDIQ

Dag, y’all niggies beat this shit all up…I ain’t no fan of Wayne neither, but he didn’t totally kill it for me. I can see this bangin’ more live than anything else, whether he’s on it or not. And for real, if people made joints strictly for what y’all like…well then it’d be your own album that you put out, then wouldn’t it?

  32. avatar zoflo

no, erykah, please no. album looks tight though, lets hope its sum serious.

  33. avatar Oh kay, hater

This bumps hard as sh–. Feelin’ it.

  34. avatar Travlr Stone

This is horrible! Hope this isnt a single. Return to sender please. The NWO is approaching! Speak that shit that we need Erykah please!

  35. avatar Pizzahut123

like the track ain’t bad just lil wayne if your gonna be on there with erykah you better be saying some deep stuff from the heart . im still excited for her cd keeep it up..

  36. avatar queensgetthemoney

fuck all y’all lil wayne haters you all the muthafuckaz are old dumb-ass faggots. this shit is fire. real dope shiiiiiit.
do you really think weezy ruins hiphop???
the muthafuckers who really ruins hiphop are weezy haters. ya faggots got no reason to hate lil wayne. ya mutherfuckuz just listened too much old ass trash shit, so they can’t acclimate themself to new hip-hop environment. c’mon, m-fuckers. please open your earz & eyez & your mutherfuckin’ range of thinking. this is real music.

  37. avatar Anti-Hater, Pro-Music

Really though.. the hatin is too much. Maybe you should try listening to the song..

    “We don’t give a fuck.”

It’s a dope track, and it’s gonna be a dope album. A single Lil Wayne appearance is not, I REPEAT, IS NOT the end of the world. I hated him once too, but seriously, just relax. A lot of the time he can be dumb as hell, like raw pop ignorance. But then other times he’s on some 3000 shit. Don’t deny it.

If you really give a damn about Erykah and what she’s trying to do, then you need to show her some respect. Everything’s gonna be alright, haters. Damn.

  38. avatar O-Doggy

Overall this track is dope. I like that little wayne is featured here because it’s unexpected and bound to expose some new folks to Erykah’s music, while pissing some other folks off. However, I do feel that Wayne’s verse could have been stronger.

  39. avatar Raw B

    queensgetthemoney: …
fuck all y’all lil wayne haters you all the muthafuckaz are old dumb-ass faggots. this shit is fire. real dope shiiiiiit.

At first I was going to be offended, but then I realized your retarded, and its not cool to make fun of retardeds.

PS – Weezy is a joke. This verse would have been a garbage freestyle, let alone a written on a Badu album.

  40. avatar Raw B

    IQ4U: …
“Hot as fire! This beat is banging”

In order for that to be true, the beat would have to “Bang” which it clearly does not. It “meanders.” Sigh, more innapropriate use of hip-hop lingo.

  41. avatar SunOC.

hahaha fuck this shit. This album was suppose to come out in 2008. this is way too late.
And lil wayne’s verse is whack.Never mind what he stands for and what he has done in the past. If we look at this song alone, we can conclude his contribution to this song sucks.
    Bad choice erykah

  42. avatar deezy

This song is hotter than most of the crap u clowns listen to. Can’t believe all the negative feedback this joint is getting.

  43. avatar Jericho Drumm

Eyrkah Badu: The Revolutionary + Lil’ Wayne: The false-flagging, “syrup”-drinking, metal mouth/teeth-covered tin foil, fake Blood = SHITTY COLLABORATION!!!

And I’m willing to bet money that the masses looked at the track-listing and started drooling over it; with the exception of “one” song. THIS IS THAT SONG!!!!

    @ Anti-Hater:

How can you compare Lil’ Wayne to Andre 3000? Are you serious?

  44. avatar Oh kay, hater

    Raw B = Raw Bitch.
    Appropriate use of hip-hop slang.

And “retardeds” is not a noun, a verb or even a word, so I guess we know who is “retardeds” up in this post.

  45. avatar Anti-Hater, Pro-Music

Don’t get me wrong, Andre 3000 is an artist, Lil Wayne is a pop star. But even 3000 himself has given him props in the past. You can even hear some degree of INFLUENCE from Wayne in a lot of what 3000 has done since 2007. Granted, it can be debated, but if you refuse to even entertain the thought, you’re fooling yourself.

Bottom line… don’t be so quick to let your blind hatred of Lil Wayne stop you from appreciating Badu’s dopeness.

  46. avatar Madd

    This is bad joke!
This song is a big shit…Lil…. something? What a fuck Badu?

Maybe Return of the Ankh will be return like a date…maybe 03.30.2010?

  47. avatar James Klynn

If you think lil wayne has an “influence” on 3000 youre crazy

  48. avatar prb

i was just thinking. dag ! i forgot what i was thinking but i’m still a fan of badu.Lil wayne some of his stuff is hot!

  49. avatar THE AMERICAN IMMIGRANT

WELLL…. ERIKAH IS GOING FOR THE BUCK AND THIS LIL’ MO’FO IS TRYINANA ????? I DONT KNOW BUT SHIT NOW AM NOT BUYIN THIS REKIT

  51. avatar Wes Glide..

Ms. Badu Rock on Love! We want to hear yur perspective again. Lookin forward to the new album.

  52. avatar Ryno

Oh goodness, this stuff sounds wack. Lil Wayne sounds like a little kid, much like his vocabulary skills.

    I miss Andre 3000…

  53. avatar reggiejaxx

havent you all realized that this is Badu’s album. Just because Mr. Carter is on this track doesnt mean the world is going to end for us or Ms. Badu. ITS MUSIC. MUSIC CHANGES JUST LIKE TIME DOES.

  54. avatar N2

Obviously Jay Electronica has got the best of her! Ever since him she has been on a wack mission. She needs to work shit out…but then again who am i…just wanted something good from her.

  55. avatar Jericho Drumm

    @ N2

NOW HOLD UP…don’t go too far!!!

Jay Electronica is dope and so is Erykah. I think a lot of us are just taken back that she would do a song with the epitome of wackness, Lil’ Wayne.

I’m sure we’ll get passed this. We all make mistakes.

  56. avatar Maestro

Hold up! What happened to Brother B?!!!

  57. avatar I_Mecca

Love it. She could hum Jermiah Was a Bullfrog and I’d still be like: “She killed that! That shit was on fire!”

  58. avatar Cities Aviv

so i just heard the track and i honestly dig it. shovel me in with the haters but i have to say that i hated every single second of lil wayne’s annoyance that he called a verse. that being said, with guest spots from madlib, dilla, karriem, georgia, and ?uest one can only be more excited to hear the full album now that the weak link has been thrust upon us first.

  59. avatar cla

beat is sick. on some next shit. yall r haters. lil wayne has done some wack shit. Sometimes I feel like he tries too hard to be on some other freestyle shit and doesn’t make sense. but so have a lot of rappers that get praise by the “underground” heads. He’s has had shining moments and if u care to listen up to all of his music you’ll find that he’s more than capable.

  60. avatar KiN CAMELL

    BADU = HELLA AMAZIN!

  61. avatar Red Baron

I like. I (too) was troubled by Lil Wayne’s appearance, however true to form Badu evolves. Challenges herself while challenging us.

  62. avatar James Klynn

I dont care for lil wayne at all but this song is dope I wish he wasnt on it but Miss Badu knows what shes doing

  63. avatar Flavtothecity

Erykah love your music and also this track……..you are so foward that all this people still don’t understand ………..
do you remember A milli? I know you enjoy…. MUSIC IS FREEDOM……….SO FREE YOUR MINDS::::::::

  64. avatar Orenishii32

I don’t think this was Lil Wayne’s best. I think he should have come more harder on this joint because its an Erykah Badu song. But this song knocks to me. Its dope.

  65. avatar Christina the Golden Goddess

i loooooove erykah… stan for her… but this isn’t love at first listen… however, i’m sure it will grow on me…

  66. avatar NoCompromize!

I’ve followed queen Badu for years now – Not a flinch of doubt but I gotta say – I’m sadly dissapointed bout Lil weeiner on the bonus joint. I’d like the album without that track – i dnt wana c dat prick on any of ma records!
