Audio: Cradle Orchestra “Live Forever” feat. Black Thought

Since 1987 we've all been fortunate enough to hear Black Thought rhyme over the live instrumentation of The Roots band. With this song, "Live Forever," we get something a little different; it's still Thought killin' it on the mic, but with the Japanese group Cradle Orchestra handling the live sound. From what I hear Cradle Orchestra has been gaining a lot of momentum as one of the international groups at the forefront of "Mellow Hip-Hop." "Live Forever" appears on Cradle Orchestra's new LP Velvet Ballads which dropped last month via Goon Trax (love that name). The album also features Talib Kweli, CL Smooth, and Rakaa Iriscience.

Thought is dope but the beat is very popish and corny im really not feeling it and his verse to be honest does’nt really work with this beat, just my opinion.

I agree with DJ CrossFader about the beat being ‘popish’. The Japanese tend to be a little ‘behind’ IMO with beats like this. It kind of reminds me of why I still can’t totally love Nujabes. I don’t know if its the language gap but.. they can’t really put ‘soul’ into songs. It ends up coming out like this.. ‘popish’/corny almost. But its not terrible.

The sound is beautiful!!! I just can’t but wonder though…what would ‘Wayne sound like on this…

Hey, I liked Rising Down a lot (even though Thought got killed on a lot of thoses tracks). I know your going to start throwing shoes at me like I’m Bush when I tell you it’s the first and only Roots album I own, but Thought’s not seeing Lupe. Sorry. You got a piont on Hamilton though. Maybe Micky Facts…
But the more I listen to this, the more I like it. Might cop.

I’ve been a roots fan from Do You want More?!?!
i thnk thought it was one of the best and most underrated MCs in the game. i think he could serve just about anyone out there..

that said…this song is the epitome of why he’s not considered top top of the game. you have a soulful track, absolutely gorgeous but i heard two thought verses and came away with nothing to hang my hat on other than he rode the beat well and had solid rhymes. this song needed something approachable and accessible from a personal sense, IMO i dont think he delivered. no message that connected me with “Live Forever”…

and dont come at me with some high school fan boy shit…i’m one of his biggest and fans and ardent defenders, but this verse i think is why more people dont feel the roots and the main criticism of Thought. his rhymes are always at an arms length. like i’ve been listening to him for 12 years and dont know much about him. (not really but its just the point.)

  22. avatar happywoody

delaneyzero hit the nail on the head.

regardless though, cradle orchestra’s sound is ridiculous.

    Absolute cosign.

Black Thought was perfect for this track. Keep on. Peace and hip hop.

“or Charles Hamilton would have killed it! LOOK TO THE FUTURE!”

    ^^^

If C Hamilton is the future then hip hop is in BIG trouble!! ! My question is why when people mention the future they never say Blu or Black Milk. Look at their body of work compared to C Hamilton/B.o.B and these other so called “Leaders of the New School”. Blu is doper then all them clowns and besides being a beast on the mpc, Black Milk can murder a verse. How you gonna make a song about Brooklyn girls and you not even from New York?

  26. avatar dlfagan

    Somewhere, Guru is jealous.

  27. avatar I still say

this beat is the corniest thing ive ever heard in my life

  28. avatar smellovision

cradle orchestra just did an album with an emcee out of LA named Nieve – i heard some tracks and they were pretty dope

  29. avatar Postman

Cradle is killing it right now. I heard a few the tracks they did with Aloe Blacc and Nieve. . a little different soundin beats cuz they’re using live orchestra instruments, but Im not mad at it..

  30. avatar 401 to the fullest

the chorus is corny. but still feel the track overall

  31. avatar Murafiki ''rugged_dundee@yahoo.com''

i can’t undastand why some of y’all will be disrespectin my mn like he ain’t shit..Thought is been killing it since, and he’s still a killer in the sense…not to mention Malik B he’s the best compliment to black….yea peace to the Roots crew.

  32. avatar Murafiki ''rugged_dundee@yahoo.com''

wow! that’s dope songs and the beat too!!

  35. avatar watthafuck

cradle is suck. beat is garbage.
    but b.t. killed this shit

  36. avatar Is it me or....

I have tried to download the song but I only get 11 seconds to play although it shows that it has over four minutes. I don’t know why the song comes up like this for me. Has it happened that way for anyone else?
