Audio: Common “Changes”

Way back when we posted Common's interview with DJ Semtex, Com spoke of a song inspired by Barack Obama called "Changes."  Well what better time than now to put it out.  The track is said to appear on Common's Universal Mind Control, out 12/9. D.C. area, see Common tomorrow at Love! Scroll down for details.

Common "Changes"

Shout out to OS for this one.

I don’t know. This new ish just not grabbing me, and it’s not hating cause i’m a life long Common fan. But if this is what actings doing to the music, then he needs to stop acting, or just stop doing music. Leave on a good note. Not like this.

Dope Joint from Common. Always delivering something special lyrically. I like the soulful feel good vibe of the track as well

    Peace…….

Track is dope simply from Com’s truth and authenticity, period. The production genius seems to be missing here though, at least on first listen. Who produced this?

  9. avatar boogieman London

very cool song, better than the commercial crap that he has been doing recently !

  10. avatar Makesfolkslose

Without hating on UMC, I can safely say that this track sounds so much more like a Com Sense song than that. As far as production and lyrical content goes, this is very solid. I hope the album has more of this and less of the title track

    Muhsinah on the hook…..yessurr!!

  12. avatar westsidemoe

    this is ok.
the the lyrics dont grab u like the best of com’s rappin.
he sounds happy. rap needs angst ,anger,or melancholy.
    very few can rap happy.
even hammer was mad i.e. turn this mutha out.
ice cube’s “good day” was at best just mundane.
rapper’ need something to prove he sounds fulfilled.
given the circumstances im not mad at him at all.
    OBAMA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I’d have to agree w/Westsidemoe. I’m not feelin’ this. Common sounds like a big kid in his rap. I like what he’s saying in the lyrics though, now that is truth.

  14. avatar MUTHONI

Thank you common. You are my imaginary friend!

  15. avatar Soulwriter9

I hope this is the last song on the album, and includes another insightful message from his Pops!

  16. avatar pfeif diggy

Hip-Hop needs anger? I really don’t see how that works.

Any case, I like the song, not feeling the Obama sample at the end though.

  17. avatar Flydove

If this wasn’t Common it wouldn’t be worth listening to ..He can deliver truth like none..

  18. avatar Saint15

It’s just good to see how Obama is influencing people.

  19. avatar Uubscmai

Some of y’all just don’t get it. This track is sooo Chicago and the Chi really needed some good news right now, what with the Jen Hudson crap and Studs Terkel goin out. This is appropriate.

    Obama commemorative album at DaylightOnDemand.org.

“Ice Cube’s good day was at best just mundane”.. wow.. I know this is a Common thread but I can’t get past the foolishness that embodies that comment.

Anyway, Dope song, can’t wait to hear the rest of the album.

  21. avatar james p. eace

That song is big in its message and production! and I’m feeling Muhsinah on the hook. the use of the reverb effect reminds me of LWFC. I need more of that positive energy!

  22. avatar Ill Prophet
