Audio: Afrotreats, a Fela Kuti mix by DJ Dhundee

Yes, Fela is everywhere these days, you might even say it’s a Fela revival, or a Fela-olution. But historically speaking, espesh in the hip-hop world, worshipping Fela is nothing new. Check out this mixtape from NY based producer and DJ Dhundee. Afrotreats traces some of hip-hop’s best tracks that sampled Fela over the years, from Jay Z to Mos Def and many more. This comes on the tail of The Funky African, where ?uesto breaks it all down for us. For more from Dhundee, check out his debut album Take Flight out on Sugarcut Records, 19 tracks of sample free gems all written and produced by the man himself. As for Fela, catch the second set of Fela Kuti re-releases (from Knitting Factory Records, now home of all things Fela) – the “Na Poi” batch will hit the streets may 11, but are available now here. As for Fela on vinyl, the first press is a special 10-inch for Record Store Day which came out on April 17th, find it at your local record store (leftovers will be available on fela.net). Download Afrotreats below, tracklisting after the jump.
