An Amy Winehouse Biopic is Officially in the Works

Get ready to watch the film about the legendary British soul singer.

Amy Winehouse's family has signed a deal with to make a biopic about the late singer. The Winehouse family will be executive producers for the movie. Geoff Deane, the screenwriter behind Kinky Boots, will adapt her life story.

Proceeds from the film will go towards The Amy Winehouse Foundation, an organization that aims to combat drug and alcohol misuse in young people. According to The Guardian, the singer's father, Mitch, said in a statement:

We now feel able to celebrate Amy's extraordinary life and talent. And we know through the Amy Winehouse Foundation that the true story of her illness can help so many others who might be experiencing similar issues.

He also did not accept any suggestions that Lady Gaga would play his daughter in the film. He told the Sun:

What we want is somebody to portray Amy in the way that she was...the funny, brilliant, charming and horrible person that she was. There's no point in me making that film because I'm her dad. But to get the right people to do it, that's very important, and we will.

Filming is due to start in 2019.

Last week, the Winehouse family also revealed plans for a global Amy Winehouse hologram tour in 2019. There will also be a new documentary, Amy Winehouse - Back To Black, coming out on streaming sites and DVD on November 2nd.
