Watch Bon Iver's Justin Vernon Join The Revolution For an Electric "Erotic City" Performance
All of my purple life
Vernon, a Wisconsin native, joined the late icon’s band, The Revolution, for a performance of the “Let’s Go Crazy” b-side at The Purple City’s Rock The Garden Festival, lending a rarely-uneffected leading vocal to the cherished 1984 cut, which, according to the icon himself during a Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction speech for George Clinton & The Funk Mob in 1997, was recorded immediately after seeing a “frightening” P-Funk performance at Los Angeles’ Beverley Theater in 1983 (later covered rby Clinton for the soundtrack to PCU in 1994.)
With only Sheila E. missing, the remaining Revolution roster (Wendy, Lisa, BrownMark, Bobby Z. and Dr. Fink) put the funk to the front for a spot-on live take. The performance arrives just weeks after the release of controversial expanded and deluxe editions of Prince’s audiovisual masterpiece, Purple Rain. You can watch the full clip down below.
