Longtime collaborators J. Cole and Wale were spotted in the studio together early Friday morning (Jan. 12) after the latter posted and then deleted a video teasing new music with Cole next to him on the mixing boards.

The two have had an on-again, off-again relationship. Most spectacularly, the two went back-and-forth last year when Jermaine checked the Nigerian MC on “False Prophets” without name-dropping him. “He want the fame, the acclaim, the respect that’s been had / By all the legends, so every time I see him, he stressing / Talkin’ bout, n****s don’t f*** with him, this shit is depressing / And I know he so bitter he can’t see his own blessings,” Cole rapped.

Wale quickly responded with “Groundhog Day,” saying, “I know since I got my deal and shit got real / I ain’t been the easiest n**** to deal with / I’m heavily flawed / But far from a false prophet.” It is good to see these two recording together, as those who saw Wale’s original post noticed that Folarin and Cole were “workin’ on new vibes” for an as-yet-to-be announced project.
